Contest: How much do you pay for your education

Background

I go by the name Ben-Nathaniel Fosu, i am currently a 6th year Doctor of Optometry student studying in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. I am a Ghanaian by birth and also a current resident. My tertiary education started about 5 years ago in the year 2015 when i got admitted into the Doctor of Optometry Program, it was my first option and so i got it i was quite exhilarated. Fast forward to 2020, whiles the journey over the years have not been easy, it has been quite fun all the while and i must say a big Thank You to my pops, who saw to it that i got this far. My School, KNUST

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is one of the best universities in West Africa as a whole and has been award this prestige on numerous occasions during the West Africa Universities ranking reports. We recently won the Enactus award for the 4th time since its inception. The School was name after Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who was the first prime minister for Ghana and the first president for the republic. The School can be found in the Ashanti Region which is the second capital of the nation in city of Kumasi Oseikrom.

We can boast of great technological advancement in terms education and research. The support for extracurricular activities sees to it that students leave the school with so many skills which makes them functional in the society. We also have one of the largest olympic size pools in Ghana. Recently we just celebrated our having the first female vice chancellor, thus to talk of our dynamism and practice of democracy and equity. The school has 6 main colleges which covers almost every program know to the educational sector.

Program of Study and How I paid for tuition

As already mention i am final year Doctor of Optometry student and basically my program of study prepares or grooms me to be a primary healthcare provider for the visual system. The program is mostly centered around clinic work however at the early years of your training you get to stay in the lecture hall and imbibe knowledge.

In this day and era paying for college is never an easy task, then to add salt to injury one has to battle with campus residence the lot of which are not owned by the school because of which owners take advantage to charge exorbitant prices to the detriment of students. Going through college my Dad was the one who saw to all my financial needs, i must point out that at the time i was in first year i had two of my sisters also in university at the same time and so i always admired how much my dad sacrificed to see us through to this end. Over the years i applied for some scholarships to help ease the burden on my dad, luckily for me i won every scholarship i applied. Over the years price for tuition has ranges between 250 dollars equivalent to 320 dollars whiles hostel prices have gradually soared from 250 dollars equivalent to 350 dollars and over.

In my 3 year i discovered the steem platform and have been taking care of my personal needs with my blog earnings since then, another mean by which i alleviated the stress on my Dad. I also make some income from playing the keyboard which i am so fond off which i also add up to help when the need arises. With just a year more to go, the battle is won and the war is about to be won. Let me at this juncture say a big thank you to my steemit mentors who encouraged me till now @mcsamm and @anaman and to my Ghanaian comrades for a good job done.

Conclusion

Steemit is a great place to be and with our community growing each day it is always a pleasure to see people dedicate time to see its development considering how much it has impacted lots of live.
