In Hindu marriage, a Gold ornament with the sacred design looped with turmeric thread (called "Manja Kayiru" in Tamil) plays a vital role in their Culture. In south India, it is called Thaali or Thirumangalyam and Mangalsutra in North India. At the time of marriage groom will tie the Thali in the bride's neck with three knots, each knot symbolize a meaning,

  • First Knot symbolize "urmai" known as the power a husband gives his wife.

  • The second knot resembles "uravu" which strengthens the relationship of the brides and groom's family.

  • The third knot symbolizes the society - that the brides are an important member of the goom's family.
