2016 was a record year for the number of earthquakes in South Korea. And this is not surprising. In 2016, on September 12, near the city of Gyeongju, there was the strongest earthquake in the entire history of South Korea.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), Jangsa Fault is the main cause of the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake. However, the 2017 Pohang earthquake could have been caused by human activity.
