Greetings to everyone, I welcomed you all once again to the fifth lesson of the English Language Session. I am @abu78 and today I would like us to look at Interjections. I hope to give my best to the understanding of all. Without much ado, let's go straight to business.

What are Interjections?

---

Interjections refer to words or phrases that are used in expressing or showing strong feelings and or sudden emotion. They are sometimes referred to as exclamations because they are mostly followed by an exclamatory mark. Interjections are usually at the start of sentences to express excitement, joy, disgust, surprise, etc. Interjections express emotions such as relief, pleasure, panic, annoyance, embarrassment, dissatisfaction, boredom, etc.

Examples of interjections include; Hey!, Good!, Oh!, Damn!, Hmmm, Phew, Ow!, Ouch!, Really? etc.

Examples of Interjections used in sentences

1. Hey! get down from there.

2. Oh, I wasn't aware of that.

3. Great!, we can proceed now.

4. Mmmm, it's very sad to hear that.

5. Holy moly! he made it in the final exams

6. Oh, really? I didn't know that.

7. Jeepers! you made me scared last night

Key Points to note when using Interjections:-

• It should be noted that for mild interjections commas and full stops are used after it, but for strong interjections, an exclamation mark is used just as we saw in the examples shown above.
