Greetings to everyone, I welcomed you all once again to the fifth lesson of the English Language Session. I am @abu78 and today I would like us to look at Tenses. I hope to give my best to the understanding of all. Without much ado, let's go straight to business.

I hope and believe that last week's lesson was well understood.

Before I commence with today's topic, I would like to apologize to my students for being unable to lecture for the past two weeks. I was a bit occupied and a little busy but for now, I promise to try my best possible so that we can complete the first season for the English class.

What are Tenses?

Tenses are a very important topic for students in high schools. Tenses represent the form in which a verb is used to understand a situation or an occurrence. For example, Jessica danced for 3 hours and then went to sleep. The past tense of dance (danced) here signals or indicates the time of the dance in the past. Tenses are generally categorized into three types and they are;

  • Present tense
  • Past tense
  • Future tense

Now, let's discuss the types of tenses mentioned above.

Types of Tenses

Present Tense:- This type of tense is also grouped into three different types and they are; simple present tense, present perfect tense, and present perfect continuous tense. We would look at each type here in this article.

  • Simple Present Tense:- This tense is used in expressing daily activities, and facts. It is utilized in expressing something that is happening or happens daily or something which is a fact in itself. The addition of s or es to verbs normally produces the simple present tense. For example;
  1. The moon comes out at the night.
  2. Accra is the capital city of Ghana.
  3. He likes sleeping a lot.
  4. She eats too much.
  • Present Perfect Tense:- This is used in describing already completed actions or tasks. For example;
  1. I have seen the girl that you liked the most.
  2. Stephen's father has been to Dubai.
  3. They have won their match.
  • Present Perfect Continuous Tense:- This is used when the focus is on an uncompleted or unfinished action or task. For example;
  1. John's father has been waiting for his wife for 30 minutes.
  2. Since December, it has not been raining
  3. The weather has been cold since last month.

I would end here and leave below an assignment for all to participate. Thank you all for your time.
