Indoor plants and heating

The number one opponent of houseplants in the fall and winter is home heating.

Although they can't survive cold and frost outside, indoors plants feel threatened by the unhealthy climate, not humid but dry and often with temperatures too high for their needs.

First of all, never place them next to heaters or worse to wood stoves, pellets or fireplaces.

Heating dries up the air and for this need resort to the use of humidifiers for rooms or the more classic ones for radiators.
But a good idea is to spray vaporized water on the leaves.

Plants that need a humid habitat such as orchids, can be placed once a week in the bathroom, under the shower, so that they can find moisture both in the soil and on the leaves and flowers.

But how to tell if the plant is suffering from the heating?

The indicators are visible at first glance: the branches bend down and sag and in the worst cases we notice the presence of insects or fungi.
Also to counter this climatic factor, we remember the importance of the fertilizer, in lumps or liquid, which serves to revitalize the plant and reinvigorate it.

If the intervention is successful, you will notice the gradual resumption of its growth and the proliferation of leaves and flowers.

Many people live in homes equipped with underfloor heating: this comfort for us is considered an enemy for the health of plants in the house. We avoid placing the plants on the ground: the water stagnating in the saucers, in contact with the heated floor, risks overheating too much.

We choose to keep the plants on shelves or furniture, or even in decorative planters designed for the display of plants on multiple levels. This way they will not be in close contact with the underfloor heating.
