Good evening all friends, meet me again @chairulrizalx and this time I will take a Graphic Design Class in the Steem Skillshare Community mentored by @atim1234. In this third class, I will learn about the Basics of Graphic Design and the Introduction of Colour and Typograpghy, this time the task is tutored by @lhorgic. Hopefully, this lesson will be useful for all of us in this community.

1). In your own word, explain what you understand by Colour & Typography ?

Graphic Design is a field of art that contains many techniques and elements, which makes graphic design a free thing to express oneself. In this post, I will discuss one of the important elements in graphic design, namely "Typography".

^source Typography is a technique that is already familiar to a graphic designer. Typography is a technique in selecting and arranging letters beautifully in an available space. The world of graphic design is very wide and free for designers to convey messages from their work, one of which is by using this typography technique. In general, typography is not only used for designers but literature or fine arts.

The typography created by each designer must contain different elements or purposes, even though the core message to be conveyed is the same. We can find typography in everyday life such as promotional designs on social media, poster designs, flyers, banners, and the like which are a form of visual communication whose function is as a medium to convey information.

Typography is divided into several categories:

• San Serif
• Script
• Serif

Here I will share tips on using typographic design techniques for designers:

• Set the type of text to be used.
  ^source Designers who want to create a work that is easily understood by the public must understand how to regulate the use of text in their design, text that is following the design theme will be easier to understand and understand by the general public.

• The right color choice according to the design.
  ^source Color plays an important role in the design work, logo, or poster of a famous company that we know today to think carefully in using color to convey the vision or mission of the company. The use of color in a design work must be appropriate because each color has its meaning and also the application of color must describe the image of the company.

• Follow design trends to stay up-to-date.
  ^source It is important for every designer to always hone knowledge and increase references in the field of design, following design trends that are on the rise or are widely used by large companies or brands are things that need to be done so that we always think the latest and keep innovating in making design works.

Colour

^source Color is one of the attractions in the field of Graphic Design and is also one of the most important elements that contribute a lot to a design, where soft colors will produce comfort for the eye that sees it. The view of color involves the response of psychology and human physiology.
^source When viewed from a psychological or human emotion, the meaning and meaning of existing colors can show an impression on objects, light, eyes, and brain. Therefore, color is a reflection of many things that exist in human life, and in graphic design, the role of color is very core that describes the identity of design work.

The following are the criteria for choosing colors in the design:

• Show color with the dark background.
• Choose a bright color for the foreground.
• Avoid using brown and green for the background.
• Use colors as needed.
• Use color to grab the attention of the audience.
• Avoid using a lot of contrasting colors in one design.

2). Mention 5 colours and what they represent just like you were taught in this class ?

1. Purple

^source Purple is one type of color that gives the impression of spirituality, wealth, and wisdom. By using purple color we can give a unique impression to our designs, whether we use it dominantly or just as an accent. The weakness of this purple color is the use of color combinations that match purple, designers must match the appropriate colour so as not to collide with other colors.

2. Gold

^source Gold is one of the colors that has become a valuable commodity today and has a high luxury value. The gold color symbolizes success, luxury, victory, prosperity, achievement. The gold color cannot be used arbitrarily because the meaning contained in the color is all things that mostly have a high value.

3. Black

^source Black color can be symbolized as strength, confidence, security, protection, steadfastness, mystery, emotion, immortality. Black is also a color that is gloomy, catastrophic, and scary. In addition, black is a type of color that is commonly used in various design fields. Black is a color that is easy to combine with other colors which can produce an elegant and slightly colorful design.

4. Gray

^source Gray is a neutral color or often referred to as a monochrome color. This mixture of black and white is often used as a neutralizing color in a design. On the positive side, the color gray depicts seriousness, stability, independence, and even gives the impression of being responsible. In addition, the use of gray that is too dominant has an impact on the appearance of a boring and uncommunicative impression.

5. Pink

^source This color is one of the colors that is synonymous with women and all feminine activities. Pink symbolizes femininity, tenderness, elegance, passion, cheerfulness and generally feminism. A person who likes the color pink is often considered to be a creative person in channeling interesting ideas.

4). Create a simple design showing your understanding about this lesson.

Here is the result of a Typography design that I made with the Adobe illustrator CC 2017 application. Here it uses several colors, namely:

• # 264653
• # 2a9d8f
• # fff1e6 and additional
• color gradations # b24592 + # f15f79.

The fonts I use are Roboto Black, Brush Script MT Italic and Pacifio Regular. For a final touch I added a crumpled paper texture that I downloaded from the Vecteezy source website under a free license.
