''The Skill That I Want to Have... But I Don’t''.gif

Good afternoon Stemians, Success, and Blessings to all; today I come to participate in a contest that caught my attention where we are invited to talk about the professional skill that we want to have but we don't have; sponsored by @alena-vladi in this beautiful community.

First of all, I want to talk about professional skills; these are the knowledge that a person has to perform an activity in their area of work.

Professional skills allow you to stand out as a professional and demonstrate the specific knowledge of the profession; these are acquired and improved over time. Some professional skills are Teamwork, adaptability, creativity, initiative, and decision making.

Tell us the professional skill you don't have but would like to have.

Communicating with sign language. Which falls into the range of communication skills.

Sign language is the natural language of Deaf people. A language that like any other, has and fulfills all the linguistic laws and is learned within the community of users to whom it facilitates to solve all the communicative and non-communicative needs of the human being, social and cultural.

Sign language can also be used by hearing people communicate effectively with the deaf population.

Explain why you need this skill?.

I need this skill firstly because I like it; secondly, because I work in a Center for the Blind, which is currently located in the Educational Unit for the Deaf; sharing the day to day with them without being able to communicate is a bit difficult and unpleasant not being able to respond as they deserve; since they are very communicative and as soon as they see you they start talking to you through their signs.

On the other hand, if a deafblind school child comes to me, I can give him/her better-specialized attention if I can obtain this skill that has been difficult for me.

How you could use it in your professional spheres?.

In my professional sphere to communicate with a deafblind person or to teach parents the alphabet which is based on sign language; as well as to be able to organize events together with deaf people; since we work together we always come together for special activities, but every time I have had to look for a sign interpreter and it is not the idea; I would love to have this skill.

What prevented you from acquiring this skill?

At one time I began to take a sign language course, but at that time I was working in Sabaneta, a little far from the Municipality of Barinas, so it was difficult for me to arrive on time, I could not continue; before the pandemic began at the School for the Deaf I had scheduled a sign language course for the Center for the Blind, but due to the suspension of activities it was not possible; I hope that in the coming months I will be able to take it and acquire this skill.

How would this ability change your life?

Arriving at the workplace and having a conversation without interpreters would be a wonderful thing; as well as scheduling any event with them directly; I am a person who is characterized by being a little shy but communicative at the same time; it would be spectacular and a great achievement to be able to converse through sign language with my deaf colleagues.

Conclusion:

Communication is the basis of every activity, it is a right to be able to communicate that is why I think it is really important that in addition to verbal communication we can all acquire communication through sign language to be able to converse with deaf people. I think we should all get to know them.

I invite @ariannysrojas, @danicordellat, and @felixrodriguez to join this wonderful contest; I share the link to it, CONTEST ''The Skill That I Want to Have... But I Don’t'' // and the results of ''My Unusual Job'' CONTEST
