When I first entered my home city, Owen Sound, this is the first that I saw - from the inside. This was the "General and Marine Hospital" that I was born in. It has been shut down for a few decades and turned into apartments. The "new" hospital where my children were born is part of a Grey-Bruce Regional Health Services: the Owen Sound Regional Hospital.
It is equipped with a helicopter pad, so people can be airlifted to other facilities in the province for specialized care.
The Owen Sound hospital is part of a regional health strategy. A few years ago, I noticed a tiny dark mole on the side of my neck. I pointed it out to my doctor when I had an appointment. She didn't think it was anything but since I mentioned it she sent me to a dermatologist. When I visited the dermatologist, he didn't think it was anything but since I mentioned it he took a biopsy. A couple of days later he called and said that it was melanoma and I had an appointment with a surgeon. After meeting with the surgeon, I had a choice of booking the surgery at one of the outlying hospitals within a couple of days or at the Owen Sound Hospital in a few weeks. Needless to say, I was taking a 30 minute drive home after surgery a couple of days later and not a five minute drive home a few weeks later.
I would note, that I am not sure it is a good idea to tell jokes to hospital staff when the surgeon has a scalpel at your throat. I did end up with a nice Zorro Z scar at the end of it.
In addition to the hospital facilities, there is a community rehabilitation team that goes and provides services in patients' homes.
