Times of India: Article - These everyday habits may increase your risk of developing dementia

I came across this article, and thought it might be interesting to review for each of us under a bit of stress. They include some obvious things (that are self-evident to solve) that will affect your mental acuity: alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, lack of sleep, poor overall health, and social isolation. Another thing that might be affecting you is lack of Vitamin B12.

One of the reason that people have a Vitamin B12 deficiency is that they might be leading a vegetarian diet.

The average adult should get 2.4 micrograms (mcg) of vitamin B12 a day, according to the National Institutes of Health. Here are some of the best foods with B12:

  • Clams, 3 ounces: 84 mcg
  • Trout, 3 ounces: 5.4
  • Salmon, 3 ounces: 4.9
  • Canned tuna fish, 3 ounces: 2.5
  • Beef, 3 ounces: 1.5
  • Plain Greek yogurt, 6 ounces: 1.3
  • Swiss cheese, 1 slice: 0.9
  • Ham, 3 ounces: 0.6
  • Egg, 1 large: 0.6
  • Roasted chicken breast, 3 ounces: 0.3

following a vegetarian diet has side effects that are affected by vitamin B12 deficiency

Dementia is a condition characterized by a decrease in at least two brain functions, such as memory loss and the ability to judge.

I think that if a person has been diagnosed with dementia, it is toward the latter stages of the progression.

I've been trying to build up my available Steem. Isn't there one of those Potato day events coming up in a couple of weeks?

Hello! This is an interesting article. I love vegetarian food, but I also like other foods. Although I have left red meat and dairy for my kidneys :)

You raised a question in my mind that I hadn't considered before. The gene that allows adults to tolerate dairy sprang up in the Middle East about 8,000 years ago. People who had migrated from that area into Europe and part of Asia carry that mutated LCT gene. In terms of reference, people of Syria are 95% Lactose Intolerant, Spain 29%, Ireland 4%, Colombia 80% (they didn't have stats for Venezuela).

The earlier migrants into the Americas missed getting the gene so its appearance would have been from the Spanish/Portuguese influence (Central and South Americas).

A similar case might be made for the consumption of beef. My ancestors (largely Irish) were meat and potatoes people. In the Americas, beef and pork were introduced by the Spaniards in the 16th century. Your earlier ancestors might have had a diet of duck, turkey, iguana, armadillo, tepezcuintle and deer.

I have no problems with a diet rich in vegetables. The problem with vegetarianism is they need to rely upon processed non-natural foods to get their necessary requirements. It is far easier to eat four eggs in a day than to eat some artificial food that your body was not evolved to consume.

Wow, what a good research, I didn't know these things. My descendants come from the Spanish, I did not know anything about this :s

If you stand beside a road long enough, the entire world will pass by.

I could guess at your ancestry because you have very rich and beautiful skin. I, on the other hand, am so white and pale, I get moon-burn.

hahaha you need to come to the land of the sun beloved Zulia, I already imagine your skin red as a tomato

If it wasn't for COVID, I would be there. There seems to be a nice hotel on Margarita Island that has a nice swimming pool (so you can learn to splash around).

I am not sure the exact price but it looks like you can have two rooms for about $100 per day

I hope the people aren't included with the room.
