Public speaking skill is known to be the skill of the 21st century. It is one skill that I want to have but don't have it now. The ability to communicate, share my views and ideas in public has been my struggle right from childhood.

The need for public speaking skill
Public speaking can be used as a vehicle for achieving our biggest goals. Good communication skills can help us earn people's respect, become more valuable to our companies, and getting positive attention from influential people who can open important doors for our lives and careers. It's a simple fact: The most successful people in the world are also the best communicators. Our ability to communicate clearly and confidently accounts for 85% of our careers or businesses successes. We use public speaking everyday whether we realise it or not, people are listening and evaluating us, based on our abilities to speak effectively.

My job role
As an ICT consultant, entrepreneur and a trainer, I have always been in a position to talk to people in classes, at seminars and even pitching my business ideas to investors and lots more.

My struggles with public speaking
Whenever I am in front of people to speak, it suddenly dawn on me that just because I can talk doesn't mean I can communicate. My presentations always leave my audience less-than-excited as I watch them yawn, nod off, or pull out your phones to surf the web while I am talking.

My constraint in public speaking
My struggle with public speaking rooted from the following:

  1. Lack of self-confidence
  2. Fear of making mistake
  3. Fear of unknown
  4. Timidity etc.

My goals in public speaking

  • Feel comfortable and confident whenever I am put on the spot, whether it's around the water cooler, in a meeting, or on a stage.
  • Easily make a successful, lasting and positive impression whenever I speak to someone, whether my goal is to educate, entertain, persuade or inspire. Earn more respect from the people around me.
  • Finally to get the recognition I deserve, and climb the corporate ladder more quickly and effectively than ever before.

My plans for action
To Overcome my struggles with public speaking, I have taken the following steps:

  1. Creating my personal development plans.
  2. Buy some books in mastering the art of public speaking.
  3. Attend seminars and conferences to learn from other speakers.
  4. Enroll in a mentorship program.

Conclusion
I can't wait to master the skill having it will give me so much joy and we'll get me a long way to achieving my goals improve my career. So I will keep pushing till I acquire the skills because winners never quit and quitters never.
