Yaşar Kemal (6 October 1923 – 28 February 2015) was a Turkish writer and human rights activist of Kurdish origin, and one of Turkey's leading writers.
The novel is about a rebellion story that coincides with the first years of the Republic period. The backwardness of the Anatolian people, their ignorance, the misery of village life and the dominance of the aghas(ağa in Turkish) over the entire region are revealed.
