YES, I AM A GIRL BUT I LOVE CRICKET SINCE I WAS LITTLE. And I like this community too.
This is my first post in this community and today I am going to take part in the new contest about unbreakable records in cricket.
There are many unbreakable records in the world of cricket. But I am going to talk about the record of 800 TEST WICKETS by Muttiah Muralitharan.
I am sure you have heard about him if you are a cricket lover. He has many records in cricket world and most of them are unbreakable. I chose this record as I watched the match live in television. I was 11 years then.
It was 2010 year. It was the first test of India’s tour of Sri Lanka in the month of July. Muttiah had announced his retirement after this match. He had taken 792 test wickets and by then he already had the record of most test wickets. In the first innings he took 5 wickets making his total 797.
So all Sri Lankans wished for him to take 3 more wickets in the second innings and make a new record of 800 wickets.
In the second innings he had wickets of Yuvraj Singh’s and Harbhajan Singh’s wickets making his total wickets 799. So... he was 1 wicket away from 800 and the world was praying for him.
By then India had lost 8 wickets. So Murali had to take one out of two. But unfortunately, VVS Laxman was out of a runout. Therefore Murali had to take the only wicket left in the match.
I still can remember how we were at that time. We were praying and praying. Sri Lankan team was giving him a huge support. They were fielding well and cheering. An over after over was given to Murali. The bowlers bowled in the other end bowled to not to take wickets. And finally… Muttiah took the final wicket in the match, the wicket of Pragyan Ojha completing his 800 test wickets. So the wish of every Sri Lankan in that moment came true making an unbreakable record for decades.
It was 22nd of July 2010 and today is 23rd of December 23, 2020. So it has been more than a decade now. But I can’t see anyone to say that this one would be breaking this record. It is very few who has come halfway of 800 wickets even.
(I put this photo to have you an idea. This information is slightly different by now.)
James Anderson with 600 wickets is the closest one to this record from the ones who play present. He is now 38 years, so I don't think he could break this record. Others are more far away. Therefore I don’t think that someone would break this record in hundreds of years even.
Murali has retired, but the place he took our heart will never be changed.
I hope you enjoy my post. Thank you for reading.
Have a nice day! Stay Safe!
I was waiting for someone to write about Murali. One of my favorite! Look at the smile in the first picture. I also remember watching his last match. It was a tense moment. But Mahela took a blinder a the first slip.
Yeah, Jimmy is the one even close at the moment. But will see.
Thanks for the entry!
