Greetings, Coringation travelers!
Yesterday, September the 22nd of 2024, for the Brasileirão (Brazilian League) the Corinthians Men's Football Team faced Atlético Goianiense at our home, the Neo Química Arena. After losing to the League's leader Botafogo last weekend, we desperately needed this win against the last place team. However, this time, we had the participation of Memphis Depay to aid us.
Corinthians started the game really anxious, probably due to the complex situation in the Brasileirão, fighting against relegation and, more than ever, needing to win. Our team had a lot of difficult in creation during the entire first half, but our defense was well organized and Hugo Souza, the best goalkeeper of the month in the Brasileirão kept the clean sheet.
It was in a corner kick in the last moment of the half, after an exceptional cross by Rodrigo Garro, the best midfielder in Brazil, the ball landed rigth in the head of Angel Romero, the foreigner with most goals by Corinthians in its history. The Paraguaio headed it to the back of the net, and bursted the Arena with happiness. He celebrated the goal in a really unique fashion with Garro, that you can check out bellow. 1x0

After the half time interval, the Alvinegro Paulista came back with a different disposition. A lot more chances created, and soon enough our 9 Yuri Alberto fought for a rebounded ball and crossed it back to the original shooter of the play: Angel Romero. He shot it powerfully to the inner part of the crossbar, it then kicked in the line and into the back of the opoosition keeper, ending up into the goal. Two for the record-holder of goals in Neo Química Arena. 2x0
It was in the 67 minute mark that the Netherlands' player was called by the coach. Yuri was substituted out, and Memphis Depay officially debuted for Corinthians. His first touch was a great pass inour offensive play, and he even had two chances of scoring, but that ended up in the keeper's hands. Our European still needs some more adaptation and time back into the court, but his first game was a thrilling moment in our history.
In a stacked offensive play, where Depay and another attacker crossed the opposing defensive line, that Igor Coronado masterfully assisted on a great run by Rodrigo Garro, that ended up in front of the keeper and stroke it perfectly to the back of the net. Memphis was a few meters by his side watching, and was the first one to hug Garro after. 3x0
