Introduction
The name Nigeria was coined by a British journalist Flora Shaw and later wife of Lord Lugard, Governor general of Nigeria during the colonial era. The Nigeria was given to her after the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorate.
However this name could have gone extinct if not for the bravery and gallantry of General Yakubu Gowon fondly called Go On With One Nigeria.

Yakubu Gowon was a former military head of state in Nigeria. He was born on the 19th October 1934. He is married to Mrs. Victoria Gowon. He was head of state from July 1966 to August 1975. He was in active service from 1954-1975.
Achievements.
Yakubu Gowon became a Military head in 1966 at the age of 31. He was the commander in chief of Nigeria army during the Nigeria Vs Biafra civil war. He fought fought for an indivisible Nigeria. His famous speech after the war was "no victor no vanquish". He is on record as the longest serving head of state.
