12世紀愛爾蘭的阿馬總主教聖馬拉奇（Saint Malachy）25歲時成了一名神父，30歲成了主教，創設了愛爾蘭第一所基督會修道院，據傳他曾在1139年到羅馬訪問期間，經歷了關於未來的異象，看到最後的審判之前112位教宗的影像。
第112位預言中的教宗"羅馬人伯多祿" ( Petrus Romanus)
第112位教宗方濟各，他父親是由義大利移民至阿根廷，因而教宗方濟各也有義大利血統，故合乎了「羅馬人」；而「伯多祿（彼得）」為教會的「磐石」，即首任教宗，因此教宗也有「伯多祿繼承者」之意。此外，教宗方濟選此尊號是為了紀念安貧樂道的方濟各會創辦人聖方濟亞西西，他的全名是Francesco di Pietro di Bernardone，義大利文Pietro就是英文Peter，中文伯多祿。

拉丁語原文：
In pſecutione extrema S.R.E. ſedebit. Petrus Romanus, qui paſcet oues in multis tribulationibus: quibus tranſactis ciuitas ſepticollis diruetur, & Iudex tremẽdus iudicabit populum ſuum. Finis.
英語譯文：
"In the extreme persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit [i.e., as bishop].
Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations:
and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed,
and the terrible judge will judge his people.
The End."
漢語譯文：
「在對神聖羅馬教會的最後迫害中，（教會）將由羅馬人伯多祿所統治。他將在苦難中牧養主的羔羊。當這些完結後，七山之城將會被毀滅，令人敬畏的天主將審判他的子民。完結。」
p.s. 傳聞花地瑪的第三個秘密預言，是說在兩位聖人一位教宗之後，將有一班人以上帝之名，從天而降，之後教廷就會瓦解......!
