So, before everyone starts crucifying Hobby Lobby over "smuggling" artifacts from Iraq, read the articles from start to finish with the understanding the mainstream media has no intention on portraying a Christian-owned business in any light other than BAD.
Hobby Lobby didn't knowingly smuggle anything. They purchased artifacts legally.
They willingly handed over the artifacts and paid a settlement. They were warned by experts dealing in Iraqi artifacts was dangerous because they could be looted, but not that the artifacts they had were looted or that there was any way for them to know the artifacts they had were looted.
Could they have been more careful? Sure. Did they not realize the magnitude of their risks? Sounds like it. Was, as the New York Times suggests, Hobby Lobby part of some age old tradition of looting an oppressed people? Not intentionally.
But for the Social Justice Warriors, your intentions and facts mean nothing. Being in anyway connected to some sort of "aggression" or "oppression" (even if it was Iraqis who likely looted the artifacts at the source) is enough to vilify you. Christian? Then you're yummy red meat.
