At the time when Paul wrote his first epistle to the Thessalonians, Christianity and Judaism were not entirely separate, heresies were also frequent. Many Christian communities applied the law of Moses and discussed to what extent it was applicable. This is why Paul affirms: "For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life." 1 Thessalonians 4:7

The concepts of purity and impurity are described in the books of the Pentateuch and more precisely in the Leviticus and Deuteronomy.
Paul taught us in the letter to Titus: "To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure" Titus 1:15
Those who live under grace are free from law: "love is the fulfillment of the law". The law of Moses is made for the sinners and the impure.
Paul reminds us that those who seek holiness and eternal life are free from all impurities, since what makes man impure, according to the teachings of Jesus, is what comes out of his heart:
"What goes into someone's mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.
Then the disciples came to him and asked, ´Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?´
He replied, ´Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.´
Peter said, ´Explain the parable to us.´
´Are you still so dull?´ Jesus asked them. ´Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts - murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.´" Matthew 15:11-20.
For Jesus the impurity of man is spiritual not physical. Everything is pure for those who live according to the spirit, for those who live the mercy and the piety: "I desire mercy, not sacrifice" Matthew 9:13.
