The Adventure Curriculum

in homeschool •  5 years ago

is a course of study that encourages the student to go on physical and intellectual adventures with other people, or solo.

The purpose of the Adventure Curriculum is to experience the uncertainty, excitement, and discovery of pursuing an uncharted path of learning.

When we launch an adventure, knowing we know little about what is about to happen, we feel a sense of thrill which can be inspiring and fulfilling.

It is a metaphor for life.

If you empower your child to take their own adventures, whether physically or intellectually, they will feel a little bit of what life is all about.

Depending on his/her age, you can allow and recommend some adventures, while avoiding ones which may be dangerous or unhealthy.

Day by day, from a young age, your child has been growing physically and intellectually so, to them, going on an adventure is nothing new.

It is par for the course. :)

Have you ever wondered why your child is super excited to go to the grocery store?

For you, shopping may be a burdensome chore.

But for your little champion, s/he is going on an adventure and there are so many new things to see, hear, and feel.

And all of those sensory experiences are beneficial to the body and mind.

As your child grows older, you will want to look into Rites of Passage experiences to help him/her transition into adulthood. Those are super adventurous.

For now, you might consider allowing your child to:

-walk around the block by herself
-go to buy something in the store by himself
-choose any book to read in the library/bookstore
-chooseany movie to watch online or in the theatre
-sell products to neighbors
-offer free services to a family friend or relative
-and more.

This curriculum will also benefit you, as the parent, and Homeschool Leader, because you love your child and it can feel scary to let your child walk around the block or go shopping without your supervision.

But, in reality, life is an epic adventure, isn't it?

The sooner your child realizes this and embraces the uncertainty of life and starts pursuing the path of discovery,

he will be filled with excitement and satisfaction knowing he has the ability to evaluate the situation and create the outcome he desires.

Whether alone, or with other people, the Adventure Curriculum will benefit your child today and in the future.

You may have to practice deep breathing and meditation or prayer for the first few adventures, ;)

but soon both of you will be confident in each new day and you will be learning life's most important lessons.
