in homesontheroad •  7 years ago  (edited)

Welcome to the fifth part of my series #homesontheroad about people living in freedom on the road in mobile homes!

Today we meet

Meri and Daniel

At Barragem Santa Clara, Portugal

I first met Meri on the Hippe Market in Barão do San João (which I am planning to write a post about!) where she bought some of my stickers and then I met both Meri and Daniel exactly on Daniel's 31st birthday at Barragem Santa Clara!
Daniel is from Germany and Meri is 37 and from Finland.

This is a real creative nomadic couple! They have been together for 6 years and 5 of them they have spend together in their little blue mobile home!

Their home is a sweet blue Mercedes that was already converted to a home when they got it, but they made a few changes, like taking out the toilet for more starage and living space.

It's a really cosy space full of coloful pictures and a psychedelic painting over the bed!

Meri is a graphic designer and works part time while traveling - she usually struggles with bad internet connections, so she is not always able to work on the road and sometimes goes back to a more stable place to work.
Or she will just use her spare time to work on other creative projects, like here she is working on a wooden spoon :)

Daniel is also a real craftsman and makes really beautiful rings of old coins!

He makes them by creating a hole in the middle and bend the sides over to form a ring - all by hand with manual tools!

He usually finds old silver coins to create these very special rings. Here's one from 1906!

But making amazing one of a kind hand work, doesnt always make enough money in this world, and sometimes also Daniel goes back to Germany to paint houses!

All in all Meri and Daniel are happy with their nomadic existence and have no plans of settling down. Life on the road is easy and free and a small home is more than enough when you have the world as your garden and can move where the sun is!
I really enjoyed getting to know this couple a bit and would be happy to meet them again somewhere! Thank you for sharing a bit of your lives!

What a great portrait of the two! I appreciate that you also write about how they earn some money for living.
Follow, I'm interested in all the storys!
Do you only interview couples...? ;)

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

No not at all, i try to get more different people, but funny enough all the ones i have so far are couples! I asked a single father and his child and another single guy, but they both didn't wish to participate. Ive met a few single mothers too, but that was before i started the series!

Nice. For me it's good to see that there are so many people living the same livestyle.
So if you need someone more for a portrait, you can ask me too :)

(I missed this comment!) Sure, I'd love to! But then it'd have to be with your photos? Or you happen to be in the area of Spain/France atm ;D

Sorry, I was travelling too much the last time ;)
No, unfortunately I can't be there. But I'd like to meet you! So perhaps we do the interview one day we meet? I'm sure it will be much more early that we assume ;)
Did you meet all of the people you interviewed so far, personally?

Yes, only people I met and I took all the photos :)
That would be amazing! Where are you now? We are in Denmark now :)

So you kind of passed by :D

I'm in northern Bavaria. In three weeks I'll be in near Hannover for the Dachzeltfestival.

What are your next travel plans?

I don't know why I keep missing the comments in this thread! Good I decided to take a long look down the replies! Well as you saw, we arrived to Denmark and our plan is to stay here the summer. We are gonna go to the island of Bornholm, which I think is one of the most beautiful places in Denmark and the summer here is extraordinary, so I'm sure we will have a great time :) Then in the end of August I think we will start heading south again, first towards Italy :)

nice Mercedes that they have, thanks for continuing to show us all these great homes xx

You're welcome, thank you for leaving so many sweet comments! ❤
