ANOTHER LOSE ON THE HOMESTEAD

He was our first homestead rooster, and did a great job during his time. However here of the late he had developed quite an attitude...and a like for messing with the dogs. I think that what might have happened is that he was messing with Ella's(and Evan's) pups, Onree.

He had done it several times before in the past. And I think today it all just went to far.

Anyway, I came home from a short run today and found him tore up pretty good. I thought he may make it, so I left him to do some work for the day.

Hours later things had turned for the worst and Evan had to put him down.

NO WASTE ON THE HOMESTEAD

So, obviously we loved Big Green but his death ultimately meant an unexpected "surprise" meal for us so upon my return we went to work processing him.

*Big Green beheaded and ready to be dipped.

First we get the water boiling and dip him in there, feathers and all.(we do cut the head off first though)The hot water is what makes the feather removal easy. We only dip him for a few seconds and then get to pulling feathers.

Once the feathers are removed, we cut him up into pieces and boiled him.

We decided that we were going to make pulled chicken. So after he was done boiling we pulled the meat off of the bones tore it up into tiny pieces and cover it with some barbecue sauce...quite frankly it was delicious!

Tomorrow I will begin back in with the backlog updates starting with moving the trailer.
