Egg Colours who lays what

At Bellecross Hens I breed and rear traditional (heritage) breed hens and also keep a laying flock of hybrid hens for eggs to sell at the gate.
Each of the pure breed hens lays a different colour egg and the multi colour boxes are always the most popular.

So who lays what ?

Firstly the Lohman Brown , not a pure breed but the hybrid hen most commonly kept in commercial flocks to produce the cream colour eggs found in most stores14729379_1278422115525604_4254331186055536331_n.jpg

Now for the traditional breeds with the more interesting colours.

Not a pure breed but a cross between two pure breeds is our olive egg layer the Bellecross Belle

I've recently bought a small breeding flock of French Black Copper Marans who hopefully will lay lovely dark chocolate brown eggs with a glossy shell.

Black copper marans would be a great addition to our flock. The females almost look exactly like our black star hybrids. (RIR x barred rock)
