Not long now - Guinea Fowl eggs due to hatch

This little frizzle Pekin has been sitting tight for 26 days Just 2 days to go and hopefully she will be the proud mother of Guinea Fowl keets.
We set her on 11 eggs, after candling at 10 days incubation 2 of the eggs were shown to be clear /infertile, so these were removed. With just a week to go we candled the remaining 9 eggs, 1 had stopped part way through it's development so was removed, leaving us with the possibility of 8 keets.

She has been a fantastic broody hen leaving her nest just once a day to eat, drink and dust bathe. She is as laid back and as gentle as they come, happy for you to move her, check her eggs etc.

She has of course 'done it all before', the photo below is of her and the Pekin chicks she raised back in July

I love Guineas!! Can't wait to see the keets. I'm too urban to have these wonderful birds, but ONE day! :D

Locally we call them Gleanies, which I love as it dates back to the time they were used to glean the wasted corn after the harvest.

This year is my first year of keeping them, I hatched 13 keets 6-7 weeks ago. Totally love them

These frizels are so freaking cute! I just want to cuddle with that messy mane of feathers. I like your broody hen, what a great bird. I love the good mothers.

Frizzles are great, they have such a big character but are so gentle

I think it is so wise and helpful to use "other mothers" to hatch out some eggs! Can't wait!

Bantams make great broody hens and mothers. Good luck for your future

How could anything be cuter than that!

Baby frizzle chicks - they are super cute :-)
