Once again a visitor to the yellow water butt. This time I don't think it could be saved. I did put some sticks to act as bridges but I guess this insect just couldn't make it - perhaps the yellow colour was too attractive.
I tried to search to find out more about it, but all I could find was that it's a sawfly
I must confess I never paid that much attention to their presence before. We have so many types of insects to contend with 'organically'. To me this is just a bright coloured bug that ought to be embroidered. I will check more on what to see what it does and where it lives.
I found advice regarding infestation here, but I'm unlikely to use chemicals particularly because they're also pollinators :D

On the same day I also found a hover fly close to the bridge but also floating. I picked it up and it was still alive soI was relieved. I think I will have to totally cover the bright yellow thing to avoid accidents, @steven-patrick.

That is one scary but pretty looking fly @cryptocariad. I agree, the
fly would make a nice embroidery (oo.. maybe for your embroidered postcard project? :) It kinda reminds me of a villain of a superhero type of cartoon / movie or it can be the hero too. Hehe.
