Labrador Tea

Today was a wonderful day.
Not face burning cold!

Got caught up on alot of outdoor jobs that have been sliding due to the harsh cold. Animals are doing well. We brought Crazy Joe back to the spa, I didn't like the way he was breathing.

So today we made labrador tea!! :)

I decided to make a strong pot ( I use a quart jar) with about a tablespoon of chopped dried leaves (about 20 leaves). I add boiling water and let steep until it as green...I drain that water off (and add it to my chicken fountain- nothing gets wasted) keeping the leaves.
The second steeping should make a nice yellow colour. It's perfect!
I find it to be very potent, so I dilute 1/3 tea to 2/3 boiling water.

We use it in the winter to boost immunity and it helps keep colds and chest congestion at bay. I sometimes use it for my kidneys, if I feel "off".
Crazy Joe will get silver water and some homeopathics to help him along too.
We will all get the benefits of this amazing plant.

We harvest respectfully. Asking permission, laying tobacco.
Labrador tea is a very strong medicine, it takes a long time to grow. I have gone to harvest and been guided and told no. I honour and respect.
With gratitude.
It's so important that we listen. Connect. Respect. We have forgotten.

It is very important to research this plant before using. There is a rhododendron that grows close by usually that is extremely toxic. So when picking please be careful.

I do have a little extra, if anyone is in need. I send to elders down south, because many plants are so poisoned and depleted down there.

Off to sip tea and lose a game of checkers to a 7 year old..lol

Have a great night everyone!

Thank you for sharing this. Are asking permission and laying tobacco traditions of indigenous people? Are there any other alternatives than laying tobacco? Thanks

I have been taught that way, and it resonates. :) As long as you are honoring and asking permission of all beings. Respect and love. Even mentally being in that space.

You're so nice for commenting on this post. For that, I gave you a vote!

Thank you

I suppose that beautiful bird is Crazy Joe. well hello there ..you are so beautiful. I have never heard of that tea ever..very interesting.

It is!! He even has his own tea cup!
Love you too!
Mother nature always provides, eh!?
So glad we connected!

Well if he has his own tea cup I would consider him to be a very classy fowl. For sure. Much love.

Thanks for sharing this! Labrador tea is in a herbal recipe I've always wanted to make, but can never find a good source of it. So it was lovely to stumble across your post here to see it LIVE through you. I'm so happy to hear you offer tobacco and treat it in such a sacred manner <3 Very heartening.

I wish I could send you some!!
We truly do love the foraging for our food/ medicines! It's all right here!!
Thank you for your support and encouragement!

@earthmother Thank you for this post. I found Labrador tea plants a couple of years ago and never learned what it could be used for. I am always careful when harvesting wild edibles often there is an poisonous look alike near by.

Exactly! And the remedy plant for the poisonous is nearby too...lol
Mother nature! What can I say!!??
It's such a strong, beautiful medicine! There are alot more things it is good for! They even day Cancer patients use it. The elders have helped me immensely.
