Sunrise in my office
Yesterday was a washout. I’m struggling with the hours of standing required to stain each window section. The big double hung frames take 3 hours each and I did one Friday morning and Saturday morning. I’m pretty useless after that. I got laundry almost done, that was about it.
The house from the middle pasture
The last load of firewood
This will be put into the shed on Monday and we will have all our firewood in before October for the first time in a lot of years. It’s a struggle for my husband to get it cut into chunks and an even bigger struggle to get my son to split and move it. This year we bought already split wood, so it’s just been getting it moved and stacked. But next year we will be back to cutting and splitting ourselves.
Diversity in the middle pasture
The chickens have been over the middle pasture twice this year, after being on it last year. This is more than we like to do it, but we had no choice, as construction was in the front pasture and rats in the back pasture. It’s been pretty dry this month and the ground is real hard in many places in the pasture. The forecast is for rain every few days going into October, and I hope we get it.
Some photos from around the gardens:
Calendula in the Big veg garden
Peony in its autumn colors in the South Herb garden
Last of the chicory in the South Herb garden
Queen Anne’s lace in the weeds of the West garden
West and West Herb gardens in all the weeds
North Corner and Old North gardens as a garden disaster…
I doubt any of these will get cleaned out. The push is to finish the New Herb garden, get the Small veg garden cleaned out enough to plant garlic, and to finish the Big veg garden, mulch it, and finish the west fencing for it. If I get that much done before it’s too cold, I’ll be doing something.
