Front row: On right are the bottoming out eggs, followed by Xlg
Middle row: large eggs with Xlg overflow on left end
Top row: medium or barley large with large overflow on left end

Most of the hens are laying large or Xlg eggs and a couple send up ones that bottom out the scale every day. But 2 or 3 of them are still laying medium or barely large eggs. And then we get the slacker who sent up the tiny pullet egg on Sunday night. We get between 13 – 16 eggs every day for 17 hens.

We lost our organic homestead feed supplier when her grinder broke down in January. We had to go back to feeding commercial organic. For some reason this caused the shells to be weaker, even though the hens have free choice oystershell. Hope they get the grinder fixed soon!

The rooster, nearly 2 months after being found out, has still been minding his manners. He has not ever bothered us, doesn’t tear the hens up, and doesn’t crow too much.

If we can find the time, I’ve been considering putting their snake fence up to give them more room. But it is only February and we could still get a big snow storm…. So I am of 2 minds about it.

So, knock wood, the flock is doing very well this year.
