Chicks arrive - box crop May 2015.jpg

Our order of chicks ships today from Stromberg’s. They should be in our Post Office at 7AM on Friday morning.

We are getting 60 Barred Rock pullets and 30 Buckeye pullets.

We’ll started working on getting the brooder and enclosure set-up.

Today we go pick up our 2 piglets in VT, so not a lot of work on the brooder will get done.

Wow 90 birds! You are starting big. I would be interested in the benefits of the Buckeye breed. Maybe a future post?

We usually get between 75 - 90 birds each year.

We had the Buckeyes from a different hatchery a few years back and were not at all impressed. Too slow to mature and start laying, if I recall. But we've been very impressed with what we've gotten from Stromberg's so we thought we'd give them (Buckeyes) another try.

Perhaps a post on them, in the future.
