Growing Dahlias on My Flower Farm

in homesteading •  7 years ago

Of all the types of flowers I'm excited to grow this year, I might be the most geeked over Dahlias.

Dahlias are ridiculously beautiful. They are huge. They are fluttery, buttery, delicious circles of love that bob in the wind. I have about 20 tubers stored in my basement as of right now (in a cardboard box, covered with potting soil), and 30 more on order: Rip City, Labyrinth, Cafe Au Lait and a Bridal Bouquet Mix from edenbros.com.

Feast your eyes on these beauties...

wonderful flowers

ugh those are just completely luscious! gah! i've only ever grown dahlias once and they were gifted to me (they were read, i'm not sure what variety), but i worked landscaping and every year we'd put in 1000s of dahlias on this couple's property (and then dig them up before winter). such a labor of love, but so so worth it. hey, i just found you, welcome to steemit! following you now, happy to see more female earth based entrepreneurs!

haha thank you for the story! labor of love indeed! this year i will probably grow less than 100 on my flower farm (they're obviously more expensive than seeds!) but thankfully they sprout new tubers with each season!
Thank you for connecting with me, I look forward to sharing more stories together! :)
