Sterilizing Tomato Seed for in vitro germination- Pictures and Video

in homesteading •  7 years ago

I need some clean plant material for some Plant Tissue Culture Research I'll be doing.
Today I sterilized some tomato seeds in preparation for in vitro germination.

To sterilize I soaked the seed for 15 minutes in an 8.5% Sodium Hypochlorite(clorox) solution. After soaking the seed it rinsed them 3 times with autoclaved deionized water.

I then placed the seeds in a standard Murashige and Skoog media(Sucrose, gellan gum, biocide, MS salt mix)

Seeds left on the Shelf to Germinate. I will be watching for signs of contamination each day.
