Courgettes with Size of heads

in homesteading •  7 years ago

I got back on Sunday after being away all week, but it was not until Wednesday night that I got down to the plot. I knew there was going to be stuff needing done and I could not believe how nice a night it was.I did not expect to find courgettes the size of my head.

The courgette plant produces quickly and as you can see a week away and the plant is out of control. If you're thinking about planting courgettes next year remember one or two plants will feed a family, any more and you will have trouble eating enough to keep up with them.

This month is the month of plenty so it will be daily/nightly trips to the plot for me. Everything is coming along well including the peas. The carrots need to be thinned out but are coming on well also. The kale that I sowed a couple of weeks back is showing some life and the radishes are also growing well. I thinned the radishes out on Wednesday night to give them some space to grow. I also harvested the onions, I lifted them and will dry
before using. The raspberries tasted great, I picked myself a few for a snacks to keep me going. I dug up some potatoes for dinner, I also dug up some of the red dukes, this was the first year trying this kind and they tasted and looked great. I'm looking forward to harvesting the rest of them over the next few weeks. It was just starting to rain as I packed up which saved me watering to plot.

As I was leaving I got talking to a plot holder who was telling me that she was just down to check on her figs in the greenhouse. I'm getting my greenhouse this week so next year I will definitely be trying to grow some. She was also telling me that the allotment summer BBQ will be on the 8th of this month, this will be a good chance to have my ale that I got from a
friend, I have been looking forward to having the ale for a while now.

Lovely post and pics - thank you

Very nice harvest! I've never heard of courgettes. Could you post a pic when you slice it open?
