Frogs

The good news about frogs is that they are not particularly fussy and will happily use a wide variety of ponds, which makes them very easy to accommodate. As you can see we have a lot of frogspawn in the communal plot. Frogs will lay a lot as not all will survive. For the ones that do It’s an absolute necessity that they have a way to get out of the water – they can jump in, but an exit route is essential, particularly for the baby frogs. While amphibian numbers around the world have been suffering significant decline in recent times, the frog seems to be a bit more of a success story.

It takes around three weeks after spawning for the tadpoles to hatch out from their eggs. They are each about 12mm long. They still feed from the old jelly mass and any algae which is growing on it.
