This was my garden, June 2017 after epic amounts of rainfall and flooding in our area for weeks.

poor little squash babies

we ended up rigging up a crazy bucket/generator/trench/sump pump contraption and drained it

We were lucky. We lost just under half of our crops. Big farmers lost lots...it has been a scary year.

by the end of the season. Less veggies but strong on our pollinator game

As you may have seen from a previous post, we are getting ready to plant garlic!

So about that just in time for frost garlic planting?
It did't go down......the rain happened again. And won't drain again.

And it isn't just our property. Its everywhere here. Drainage ponds overflowing in every area. The water wont drain.
We are expecting another 50mm tomorrow.

We decided to take the brief few hours of dry weather today to pull in a favor and get this.....

Proper drainage. Lasered the grade. Weeping tile. A redirection into a lower spot in the bush as back up.

salvaged as many perennials as I could before rain

sages and thymes, echinaeca for its roots, my perennial garlic chives, lavenders....

It looks like this now.

You can't tell, but it should be better now. Tomorrow's rain will be the test....fingers crossed we got the drainage right because we are almost out of time!

Cheers to you all and take care of you and yours❤

Yikes, what a side step for your plans. Glad to see, you are trying to get a handle on it for the future. It takes a while to learn how our land functions.

Haha, I use my baby pools for everything except swimming. I have one out front that the dogs use as their water bowl.

Yes, learning how to work with the land as we go is a challenge. I am lucky to be able to try again.

Haha! That is funny, I have 5 of these pools out there for dust baths to herb drying bins! None are used as pools either.

Nice garden:)

Is that your dog in one of the pictures?

It is! He is an english bulldog. He got really muddy today :D

Oooooh good job it looks amazing!! I can't wait to hear the success story soon! Way to salvage all your perennial babies too :)

Cross your fingers for tomorrow that we did it right and it doesn't flood. Luckily we only scraped the sod so I will still not till. Lost my new rhubarb :( will start new seeds this winter!

Sorry about your rhubarb :( :(

That's ok. Next year ;)

My heart aches whenever I see things like this happening. =(

I would be lying if I said I didn't cry a few times these last few days :(

I feel you. I cry when I see plants die

My heart stopped seeing all the devastation you had to endure.

Hope your garden did well after the overhaul and the rain yesterday
