The Boys Helped Me Pick The Last Of The Carrots Today

IMG_1856.JPG

We had beautiful weather here, 15 degrees Celsius (59 F), so we took the opportunity to harvest. We've been pulling carrots for months now, anytime I have need em for dinner I just go straight out back. It's been great, yet I know we didn't plant enough to last us through winter. Hopefully next year. It's amazing how much our family eats, it really sinks in when you're growing it yourself and trying to prepare for winter.

Me, just enjoying taking photos, my work will come later haha!

Eddie Took A Break To Catch Big Smokie

All the chickens are on the run because no one wants to be the unlucky one who gets "man snuggles"...

Well this carried on for a while, and no, Eddie couldn't catch Big Smokie but he tried hard and that's what matters lolol. The two little guys carried on working...

There's the Haul!

IMG_1887.JPG

Eddie was able to catch a door prize though haha, the easiest chicken to catch because of its injured wing from months ago, Peter Parker.

IMG_1821.JPG

Peter Parker is still pretty young and moulting/growing feathers, yet it's easy to see he'll be one beautiful Rooster.

IMG_1825.JPG

This poor old gal is moulting too, yet the missing feathers from her wing is not from that. She has the unlucky "privilege" of being Mr. Pendock's favourite...that's from being mated too often :(

My greenhouse has turned into the dustbath house for the winter months.

The boys were digging out tonnes of these wild carrots. The next photo really cracked us up. When we looked at this the first time, the boys and I laughed so hard we couldn't even breathe, the look on Kiedis' face is out of this world hilarious!! Eddie actually printed the photo and they made a frame out of paper for it and hung it on the wall hahhaha!!!

Definitely caption that!

Jimmy is not amused either...

Is there a hotline I can call for my out of control chicken addiction?

Carrots All Shiny And Clean

Added bonus the boys found some onion and a beet!

Today Was The Big Day!

Debbie came to pick up her 9 chicks. Mother Hen Grace finally kicked them out of her nest the other day, so they went to their loving new home tonight.

IMG_1894.JPG

And I'd say this is a pretty great trade for the chicks, two gigantic spaghetti squash that Debbie grew.

The Round Up

IMG_1896.JPG

IMG_1899.JPG

It was actually pretty funny because chicks kept escaping and the boys were chasing after them all around the coop.

IMG_1902.JPG

Bye little chicks, have fun living at Debbie's with her gang! We'll visit soon :)

Thanks for coming along with us on our day! I hope you all had a great one too, and a lovely upcoming Thanksgiving if you're in the USA!

There are some hilarious carrots coming out of the ground recently too babe.......
Could you eat this?

Or this?

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Lmfao

Absolutely! HAHAHAAA!!!!!!!!

Loooooooooool!!!! Soo many good laughs reading this @lyndsaybowes ... one of my favorite blogs yet! Thanks for cheering me up :)

Aww, thank you for finding our family humorous! I'm so glad we could make you smile, and probably @tremendospercy had an effect too with his well endowed carrot!

Hey Babe, where is the Dark Layer?
I assume she's off harnessing the dark side of the force 😂
You have a fantastic homestead babe, providing for your family the way you do is a lost art, you guys are awesome ❤️

Darth Layer is doing great, thanks for asking!! I was trying to get a pic of her for you yesterday but she wouldn't play nice for the camera...damn coont!!

I knew she was trouble the moment I saw her 😀

Those carrots look amazing..have you ever tried making cream of carrot soup...it is really tasty. The way that brood eats you need way more carrots. You have more chickens than carrots. I think maybe some of those chickens should go to Kijiji. Save the favorites. Rabbits multiply like that. but chickens..who knew. I can not find my question mark. That is the strangest look on Kiedis for sure..but how many people have no eyeballs and a large weed growing out of their nose. Cool you kept the picture. You can recapture that moment every single day.

No haven't tried to make that soup yet, though I don't think I'll use my precious carrots for that hahaha, maybe next year, we gotta grow at least twice as much...

Glad you got to see the picture hanging on the wall tonight, your expression was priceless!!

Kiedis' face is really amusing :D

Oooh thank you for liking it so much!!!! We laughed so hard, we are actually still laughing at it because the photo is on our kitchen wall, I'm looking at it right now HAHAA!!

i can imagine :D how does Kiedis feel about this attention to him? I hope he doesn't feel uncomfortable because of it ^^

HAHA noooo, he's the one laughing so much too. Usually he idolizes his big brother Eddie, and looks at Eddie only with adoring wonder. So it was pretty funny to see Kiedis be so disappointed in Eddie in this photo AHHAHAA!!!

oh... now i worry about Eddie... xD
just joking)) they seems like very smart and adorable young lads, and it's nice to see them having fun :)

Thank you @lyndsaybowes for restoring my faith in humanity.

Your post showed up in my feed at just the time I had begun giving up on our species.

Please keep on being you and raising good stock for future generations.

Hiii so good to see you @theblindsquirl!! I haven't seen you in my feed in what seems like ages!! <3 <3 <3 <3 Thanks for the support and the good vibes, sending a tonne of love our your way!!

@lyndsaybowes
And I thought that I was posting too many photos in a post.
Lesson learned. Thank you.
So much is easily known and understood by your posts.
And I think that a lot of it is because of your photos.

Back to the drawing boards for me.
Wait. I don't have any drawing boards. lol
You are leading the way for us on Steemit.
And I thank you for that.

Francis

I'm definitely always thinking I bore people with how much I put in a post, yet, if they want to scroll through it is possible because I don't write too much. I have enjoyed your two walks, and if you wanted to add extra photos and descriptions I would love that too! Be yourself, you're doing amazing !!

Thank you so much for your encouragement.
I want to do whatever I can to help us get Steemit to greatness.
And I am always learning. That is what I seek after for all of us.
I am committed to Steemit.
And you are never boring. Just the opposite.

Francis

Aw, you're such an Angel, thank you!!

Carrots are good for late autumn/fall cropping. We've still got a couple of beds of them left to harvest. They should last until Christmas but we will need more next year to go all the way through the winter.

We've had two frosts already but it hasn't affected the carrots.

I'm so glad you'll be enjoying your own carrots for a long time to come, we have to plant twice as many next year! I'm freezing some today once I cut them up, perfect for stews in the winter!

What a stunning day. Harvest time is always exciting. I am encouraged to see your advancement and what you learn. It is also a wonderful opportunity for your sons to value what goes into food production and dealing with the world around them. I commend you for that.

Seeing all them carrots made me thing of carrot cake....mmmm.

So when do we get to see you harvest the pot plants? Or is that done on a daily basis. :)

Omg I LOVE carrot cake!! Gonna have to whip one of em up soon. As for the mary jane hahhaa, next summer you will see!! Thanks for checking out our day Task!

You best not publicize that.

You mention carrot cake and I will be at your door and the mention of maryjane will bring @davedickeyyall running. :)

That sounds like one hell of a party, I'm in!!

Ill be the one dressed like the Pillsbury Dough boy bundled up like I am a tackling dummy for the NFL.

HAHA I would love to see that :)

LOVE THIS....Love the winter boots on one boy and shorts on the other. LOL, that is a wonderful shot of Mr. Bond That is postcard worthy. Thanks for sharing somewhere in Canada that it was warm today, short good times I remember those days seems back months ago now. LOL

The forecast is saying this is our only warm day for a while, and it's been quite cool up until today, so we'll take whatever we can get! I heard you all got snowed on recently eh?

That looks like a fantastic day!
Those spaghetti squash are pretty big. Yum.
I like to use excessive butter on my squash. :)

Mmmmmm yes!! I'm going to try and make spaghetti squash lasagne, my son brought a recipe home a few weeks ago for it!!

This is great everybody the hands in the dirts instead of playing virtual reality video game, there is hope for the future! good job!

YAY!!! Hope for the future!! Hhahaaa <3 <3 <3 <3 I'm glad we could give you hope dear @vachemorte!

Looks like you enjoyed your weather today. You have a wonderful family.

Thank you so much for stopping by our humble homestead @SeaReader1 :) <3 <3

Your welcome. I always learn something when I read your posts. Looks like you had a fun day outside. :)

Those carrots look good. I'll have to try growing them.

They are very very easy to grow, you'll do great!

Omg mr James Bond and friends look like they are living it up with you guys! That makes my heart warm :) lovely gatherings from your farm too! Happy thanksgiving!

Aw, I'm glad you saw your little man! Though we're pretty sure James Bond is a hen :) I will keep you posted on what colour of egg she lays, our chickens lay green, white, brown and even pink eggs <3 <3 <3 <3

Lol! Yes please do that is really cool! At one point I had wanted to get a little flock of ladies but I don't think the HOA allowed it

Yeah...cities can be real arsholes!

Awesome! I worked on a carrot farm, (I used to do sub surface drainage and worked on farms across the country) We could take as many carrots as we liked home. It used to be a spud farm so now and then we would dig up a bunch of tiny potatoes. They were great roasted. Anyway, the carrot farmer told me that the mutation in carrots is caused by a mite. Ive never really looked into it, he could have been pulling my leg. I just thought I'd share 😁

Oooh are you talking about the wild carrot as opposed to the orange ones?

Orange ones but i figured it would be the same for wild ones. Or do they just grow that way naturally?

If you're talking about these beasts, yes apparently they were the first carrots. The orange carrots have been bred over many decades from this ancestor. Or so I've read...

When orange ones look like these, the farmer told me mites cause it.

Thats pretty interesting about the wild carrots. Ever tried eating one?

Ahhhh gotchya, now I know what you're talking about! And no, we haven't tried em yet but we sure will one day when we have to forage for food! For now, the chickens eat em :)

Hahaha. I reckon I'd give them a try!

They smell exactly like a carrot and apparently you can spice food with the tops too. It's comparable to parsley.

Nice carrot haul..

:) Thank you Kind Ser.

My favorite is carrots in a rich beef stew. A beef bourguignon even. Quite the foodie here

Oooh yum, now my mouth is really watering!!
