Selfie with a ball of dough?

Welcome to my day...

Photo on 2017-11-07 at 9.39 AM #5.jpg

I have my dough on its first rise. Now to stir my apple cider vinegar...

Photo on 2017-11-07 at 9.40 AM #2.jpg

As you could see the burn on my arm is getting a lot better :) My apple cider vinegar is still in its first stage, where it sits with water and sugar for 2 weeks, being stirred twice a day. If you want complete instructions on starting your own vinegar click below:

How To Make Your Own ACV

Outside To Get The Eggs

IMG_1221.JPG

It was very cold out today. I know it looks like it might be mild in this picture, but trust me, the wind was biting my hands as I was taking the photos...

IMG_1222.JPG

A lonely tire swing...

IMG_1217.JPG

Some kale still doing very well, hasn't fed the chickens lately I guess...

IMG_1218.JPG

The most random mustard plant ever...mustard seeds are like that though. Be a mustard seed.

Chick Crossing

The girls have full reign over the greenhouses now that I've picked everything. They go in there to get away from the wind and have a perma dry place to dustbath. It's perfect for the winter months.

"Why is that crazy lady always following us around? She should really mind her own business."

Photo on 2016-05-22 at 1.07 PM #4.jpg

I AM the crazy chicken lady, that is why I follow you around...(Photo from last summer)

IMG_1197.JPG

Mr. Pendock rushing to the greenhouse to make sure I didn't do anything to disturb his ladies.

IMG_1227.JPG

Our other rooster, Big Smokie (the grey one) and his ladies. He has to stay away from Mr. Pendock as much as possible, Pendock has been kicking his ass lately. The funny part is, one day Smokie is gonna realize he's bigger than Pendock...Poor Mr. Pendock...enjoy being the top Roo in the Harem while it lasts...

Aaaaaaand this is what our front yard looks like...

IMG_1206.JPG

People have asked us if the chickens go on the road. They don't. They'll get close like this at times, but as soon as a vehicle is coming they flee, and then slowly work their way back again, and then flee again. So don't worry bout my babes.

IMG_1194.JPG

We do get quite a few folks walking by our place and they always have a smile when they see the chickens. It warms my heart that others get joy from this too.

IMG_1213.JPG

IMG_1231.JPG

Dig out a bit of onion and carrot for dinner.

That's right, I was getting eggs...!

IMG_1202.JPG

Our chickens have 6 nesting boxes...a couple will use one, sometimes, mostly they are just little rebels and build their own little nests hahaha! At least they are doing it in the coop...

IMG_1203.JPG

IMG_1204.JPG

That's where I slipped and almost bit it lololol, had to throw some straw down.

Super Bonus Question. What Are We Having For Dinner?

IMG_1238.JPG

Hint: There are only 2 more ingredients going in.

HAHAHA I honestly don't expect anyone to be able to answer that, but who knows eh?

I dont know what I love more the eggs, watching those chickens scurry around or the buns..mmmmm..actually I am out of buns darling...as far as all the pictures one as beautiful as the rest as always.. love , love, love them all..and we can never use the joke why did the chicken cross the road..not one of those chickies has ever gone of the highway..really smart they are..

Oooh I'm so glad the chickens are afraid of vehicles, unlike Sider!! Remember how he would go trotting down the street? SMH!

I'll have to send over some buns soon! Would make me very happy to.

pretty sure I can taste those buns now with some farm fresh eggs.

I'll send B over with some tomorrow when he comes to look at the attic with Opa :) xxooxoxoxoxoxox

I suspect you're having a a quiche or an omelette.
Your chickens are so cool and as healthy as I've seen, you're brilliant homesteaders babe.
FYI, not boring!

Thank you Angel Friend!! :) :)

And nope, that's not what's for dinner ;)

Could be like a pasty or a pie? All this food talk is making me hungry 😉

I can't believe it but @phoenixwren got it right, meatloaf!!!!

I was wondering about the chickens in the road, too, and was about to ask! LOL
I LOVE seeing your day. Looks like a great day to me. And I love your Crazy Chicken Lady photo.
I guess that you are making meatballs or meatloaf?

OMG!!!!!! See you are just a wealth of knowledge, you got it!! Meatloaf!!!!!!!!!!!! @phoenixwren you are officially the BOMB!!!!!!!!!

WOOHOO I am the Iron Chef! LOL

You are da shit bro!!

Great collection of photos! A lot of my friends/family members are at stay-at-home moms and I’ve always said it must be one of the hardest jobs in the world! Now this may just be bitter jealousy speaking after a long 11 hour day at work, but you make it look like a piece of cake! ;)

In all seriousness though, it’s obvious that you work your tail off! Thanks for sharing a little glimpse into a day in your life ❤️

That's the thing though, you work all day and then come home and work a bunch more I bet! Sorry you have to be away from home so many hours a day :(

It just makes me appreciate my time with my family that much more! But I would love to leave the corporate world eventually so I can be a bigger part of their lives :) You are an inspiration!

Was sp sweet getting to see a day in the life! :) thank for sharing!
Zymo means to ferment, so we are poets who love culture
and especially food culture! Thanks for keeping them alive!
My vinegar batch from last year is still helping me flavor food and clean the house!!

Thanks so much @zymo! :) :) :) I'm so glad you create your own vinegar too, that's great!

A Homesteaders Day in Technicolor...

Your Grandma's buns look really good. I haven't made buns for a while - just loaves. Time to try some buns again I think.

Sweet! Let me know how they turn out :) :) :)

That egg apron is ADOREABLE! I can't wait for my hens to start laying. I think maybe another month. I had one lone silkie from a previous batch that turned out to be a hen, I gave her to a friend to help her one aging last chicken have some fun before she leaves this mortal coil and the next day, after I gave her away, she began laying! Oh well, soon enough, also YUMMY!

Oooh my goodness hahahha what luck eh?! Our son is hounding us all the time to get a silkie, next time some of our hens go broody we're getting some silkie eggs to put under em, they are soooooo cute!!! What kind of egg to they end up laying anyways? Do you know?

So funny - came here to comment on the egg apron and find my wife already did!

I think I'll see if my mother can knit one of those for us. Hopefully we'll need one soon.

YAY!!! I will be looking forward to seeing all of it :) :) :)

@lyndsaybowes, everything about this post makes me want to smile. My favorite is your selfie with dough... Then the egg couture... And finally, I think I see my godchicken in the last chicken pic. Resteemed with love.

Omg Egg Couture, I love it!!!! :) :) So happy I could make you smile Karen :) :) And your lil godchicken Parker is sending you tiny chicken hugs! xooxoox And a peck!

That egg apron is awesome!!
I have no Idea what is for dinner. Add more eggs and have a fritata or quiche.

My friend made it for me, it's so awesome! Haven't broken an egg since she gave it to me <3 <3

Good try on the guess hahaha, now I want quiche!!

This-Is-Going-To-Be.jpg

We got chickens, dough, egg jumpers and more! :)

LOLOLOLOL!!! Niiiiice one.

The egg apron is absolutely the BOMB! No idea what your cooking but it looks good. I enjoyed your post.
Matthew 17:20
And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.
Following!

Amazing that you bring up that quote, when my husband and I were married, that was one of the things we included in our ceremony!

That is a good one for a marriage ceremony never thought about it in that circumstance.
The picture and comment about your mustard plant reminded me of the verse.
Its one of my sons favorite verses.

Another wonderful post...you are quite the homesteader.....I am very impressed with what you are doing up there. You should put together a step by step pos(s) that others can follow.

Perhaps some basic simple stuff to help others move away from the centralized control mechanism.

What would you suggest for step by step posts? I included the links for the ACV and for the Buns, was there anything else you'd like to see?

I am sorry...my mind went a different direction than my fingers on the keyboard.

What I was referring to was your quest for getting off the grid...for pulling away from the control system to reclaim your freedom. I think it might be an interesting series for others to read as you list some of the things you did to transition away (to the point you have).

I know many are stuck in the mundane routine with seemingly no options...perhaps a few steps here and there might help them start that quest.

Okay, good ideas, thanks for the suggestion!

Haha such a cool post @lyndsaybowes ! Your buns look great , but that apron is killing me ! Haha haha ! 😂😂😂😂 I need to try and make one of those for when in move to me out of town property next summer I definitely need to show it to my boyfriend who is usually the one to get his eggs out of town , not far from where we want to build our small house on a piece of property we bought cheap ! LOL! He would probably use it himself all the time ! Im following you now and have up voted and resteemed in both my accounts @momskitchen to share with my foodie followers , and @karenmckersie ! I love it , keep up the good work !😂😂🐓🐔🐓🐔

Awww that's so great, I wish you all the success in the world with your new venture, and I hope your hubby can get his hands on one of these aprons! :) Does he crochet by chance?

Haha ! No but I do , its been a long time though but it would be cool to make for me !! LOL! Even though I bet he will use it too haha ! Oh I think your making a Spanish Vegetable Stir Fry called "Pisto" haha guessing !😀😁😂

Mmm that dish sounds fabulous! I'll have to look it up! @phoenixwren actually guessed the dish I can't believe it! Meatloaf <3

Haha ! I love meatloaf ! Thanks for letting me know !👍👍👍😋😋😋

I always enjoy the tours around your homestead and love being invited into your day and life.
Always brings a smile to my face!

I have gotten so many good gardening and growing ideas just from reading your posts!

That's amazing, I'm so happy I can contribute GoldenDawne!

I don't get into baking, so I don't know anything about those buns except that they look like they'll be good when they're done.
Those half grown chicks are fun to see, I miss having chickens running around the yard.

Oooh they were good, the boys came home from school and started devouring them lol. I have to make this same batch every 2 days!

Shame you cannot keep chickens, every family should be able to have a few. But then we wouldn't be completely dependent on corporations, and no one can have that...think of the loss of profits! :( :( :( Sad....

Damn those buns look good..
I still love the egg apron.. glad to see you using it
Y'all got a lot of chickens there.I gotta admit Big Smokie is my favorite.. it's probably the name lol

Yeahhhh Bigggg Smokeyyyyyyy! He's totally rad, and yeah, he'll PPP!

Meat loaf and fresh buns too? Can I come to your house for dinner? Dinner always tastes better when someone else makes it with love! Thanks for sharing your busy day.

Having your clan over for supper would make my day! I love cooking for others, though I don't know if you'd like the weather here now, we're dropping in the celsius every day...perhaps I should come there and cook for you!

Sounds like a plan...

Is it gonna be meatloaf? I love your breads and buns...I still haven't attempted dough yet. Hahaha your rooster selfie made me laugh...is that a big silkie rooster in the chicken crossing pic?

Hahha, the chick crossing pic is Mama Grace :) She's an easter egger :) and YES!! Meatloaf, you NAILED IT!!!!!

it looks like you are going to add some mince and to make the cutlets with veggies... :)

That's a decent guess! But it's not that :) :) :)

oh! i missed with this shot :D

That egg apron! I'm in love. Did you crochet it yourself? I enjoyed the look into your day, thank you for sharing.

My sweet friend crocheted it and all she wanted in return was some eggs, thank you for liking the photos, I could probably get you the pattern if you wanted.

What time is dinner? Homemade rolls...OMG...I'm drooling!

Better hurry up and get over here :) The boys will be home from school soon!! Then they'll all be gone lol :D

It's great to see your egg apron full of eggs. Those buns look great too.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you like my food porn :) :)

Looks like hash to me. Whatever it is looks good. You have a lot more eggs than we do. It would take 2 weeks to fill an apron like yours. Be well. 🐓🐓

I too am surprised with how much the girls are still laying with moulting happening right now and the decrease in light, must be because a lot of them are pullets!

I agreed ! Ours are also molting ! And I really hate buying eggs , theres no comparison to farm fresh , free range !!👍👍👍🐔🐓🐔🐓🐔

So much to look at. I'm stuck on the awesome egg apron and your dough. Going back up to look again.

Thanks for enjoying the photos @themerrylotus :) xo

Ahahaha, love the egg apron!

Thank you <3 <3

Also.. dinner looks like Denver omelettes

Nope, not even close. hahahaaa

Damn. Not even close. You could have sugar coated it a bit..

If it makes you feel better, no one is close :)

Nice post - love the chickens and buns :)

Thank you <3

I'm glad they brought you a smile :)
