We closed on our house yesterday!
Waiting for funding meant that we didn't get the keys til today. While the wife is painting our princess's room, the baby and I are planting some flowers and clover.
Here's some pics of the back yard. It's on half an acre.
There is the well house. The previous owners had dogs that ran out a path along the left side fence. The tree cover is less here, so the grass and such is much more dense than the rest of the yard.
I planted clover in the dog path because there is water erosion there. I figure the clover will help with that while enriching the soil that it will be preserving.
Babo loved the birds (robins) and spent most of the time out back exploring. I love that we've grown his world now into a place that he can explore. The kids are going to love it here.
In the middle of the back yard there's a red oak tree and another tree, maybe a sycamore. Under the red oak we put out some lavender seeds, and under the other tree we put seeds for lomopsis hummingbird plants. We just put down the seed and mixed some soil on top. The previous owners left a birdbath, feeder, and bird house, so I figured the hummingbird plants would work well there and that can be the bird watching place. Babo will like that. He loves birds.
Here's a view of the other side of the yard. That's the apartment and shop. The leaves have been blown and gathered up there. Lower levels have started decomposing but these big oaks shed so much each fall that it'll be hard to compost it all. It'll be a main ingredient in my composting.
That's the start. Just the first day, so there will be MANY other posts. This place is chock full of projects, and I'm just getting started. Words cannot express how much I am enjoying this already.

So excited for you guys! Here's something to consider, you may know it already:
Bird like us have bacteria that can spread disease to one another. This can collect in bird baths and bird houses/hotels etc.
There's ways to spray and sanitize them i recall reading about a million years ago.
I too really enjoy the birds!
I see fifty year old bird houses along the gravel roads and figure theyve never once been sanitized.

Makes me wonder if they have a way of knowing that a specific bath is more sanitary. Maybe providing a cleaner place for them will attract more! I'm really hoping they eat the wasps. There's so many wasps at this place lol

I really appreciate it! Perhaps I can take some of the stuff I've spewed out in people's comments area and turn them into posts. We're building up steam (like the kind in buckets) towards getting our chicken op going. I intend to keep everyone posted via steemit as it seems it would be lost in the weeds elsewhere.

Man, you can literally make a post about anything you feel comfortable sharing on the blockchain.
Every thing you do in the garden. Every fruit or veggie y'all produce. Every meal you make with it. Every thing you teach mini elf. It's all super relevant because it helps enrich your life.
