Farmer Sam waters the garden

It's been a while since we watered. All the rain has kept the ground damp. This was our first watering in over a week. Sam wanted to help, and I was happy to oblige!

Everything got bigger after the rain. Lord, I'm glad we collected the rain water, it seems to help SO much more than city water!

The okra is almost four feet tall! It's as tall as Sam! I'd say it grew at least a foot since the rain and there's okra showing all over the plants. Homemade, home grown, friend okra, here we come!

The garden is so small scale this year, but we're learning a whole lot and building our foundation. Melissa and I are going to work hard on a plan for next year. As we start our foundation of soil, water, and chickens, we're starting to plan on our focus areas for next year.

It's looking like our focuses, while maintaining the water, soil, and chickens, will be planting, scaling, and canning. There's a lot involved in that, but we'll keep it small so as not to get in over our heads. Probably a few veggies and some herbs from our talks so far.

Exciting times on the little prospective homestead, and we're glad for our little helpers... When they help. Other times, we debate how much we should sell them for. ;)

Y'all have a good evening, I'm going to do some research at work tonight. I think it's time to finally map and survey our property...

Tonight is my regular shift, but production is low tonight because we're having plantwide inventory counting. It'll be a slow night, which is good for learning :)
