elderberry syrup

Elderberry Syrup is easy to make!

Usually, I have this syrup already made all winter long but it is the middle of August and I have two little ones with a summer cold... So time to make our magical syrup that gets everyone's immune system super powered!

Ingredients:

4 cups Water

1 cup dried organic elderberry (or 2 cups fresh)

1 cup raw honey (local if possible)

2 inches of fresh raw ginger, chopped

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon cloves

Directions:

Bring water to boil and add all ingredients EXCEPT for the raw honey. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 30 to 45 minutes to reduce in half. Take off heat and allow to cool till room temp. Strain out solids being sure to press berries to get all that good stuff out. Now stir in the honey and you are done!

Store in fridge for several months! 1/2 a teaspoon for really little ones and one or two Tablespoons for adults. Once daily for prevention and every 3-4 hours for a cure!

Let us know if you add other ingredients? We have added organic lemon before and it was nice too!

Thank you so much for this! I truly appreciate it!

We make and use a very similar recipe! I did discover last year that one of my kids has to take a fairly small dose or it acts like a serious laxative for her, so that has been one thing I had to keep in mind when giving her some. I haven't yet seen how it does with a severe cold since the one we had last year occurred before I researched and made the syrup.

it's pretty magical stuff! the good thing is the kids LOVE it!!!

Thanks for sharing! I've been wanting to make some for a while but I just can't seem to find an elderberry nearby. I know there must be one! Maybe I just need to pick one up at a nursery to add to our own yard ( :

Thank you! I've needed this recipe for a while and you're the first to share it. Now... to find some berries!

Love this stuff, I make it too!

@essentialoilmom and I are going to make some this week!

yay! We already went through our whole batch! need more elderberries now!

@wholesomeroots, I just love this! I have just added elderberries onto my list for family to bring me when they visit so I can make some of this powerful, wonderful natural medicine! <3 Thank you so much for sharing! I had saved the link to read when I got back from somewhere (wherever I was going at the time) and missed it until now which is so disappointing because I see I am too late now to vote =( I hope you accept my love and appreciation instead <3 Hope you had a great weekend xo

I am so glad you will be making some! we got organic ginger on sale cheap so I added a ton extra this last batch and it added a heat to it that actually helped with our congestion fyi. The 2 & 5 yr old drank it and said it's a little spicy but its ginger spicy so not bad! lol. We hake a lot of smoothies for them with added ginger.
