Expect the Unexpected

My philosophy for many decades now has been community oriented. I had a wonderful community growing up, as well as the college town that my kids grew up in. Now my husband and I live in an even small community in rural Kansas.

About 8 months ago or so I joined a group in town. We meet once a month and volunteer for various annual functions and attempt to improve the community as a whole. Providing local classes to a variety of ages is one of the goals. We have an elementary school that closed several years ago which is now used as a community building. I will talk about that another time.

At one of these meetings I found out that Connie was going to be teaching a t-shirt quilting class. I imagined that we would be quilting t-shirts, which seemed do-able since they are small unlike quilts which are large and mentally overwhelming to me. I signed up for the class thinking I was supporting Connie and maybe learning something new about sewing. Fun!

A New Day, a New Adventure

It wasn't until AFTER I got a instructional package in the mail of the class that I realized that I was taking t-shirts and making them into a quilt. To say the least, I was a little deflated.

Bless his heart, my husband comes in and tells me that he has plenty of t-shirts for me to quilt with in this class. Since I some sewing skills and I wanted to improve those skills, I decided to attend the class and see what I could learn. Worst case scenario, I would meet some local women. It isn't easy to meet all your neighbors when you live in the country. I don't live in town, so we just don't casually run into each other. I suppose I do miss that aspect of my old college town days.

Live and Learn

This is only a small quilt but the objective was reached. It's use was at the firestation to keep my husband warm.

I will be making more quilts in the future. I have admired quilts for years, but just never got the nerve to make a large one. (I have made a doll sized quilt, which was satisfying.)

Thanks for stopping by. God Bless!
