Shoemaking in North Carolina

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to share some pictures that one of the students (Suzanne from Wisconsin) shared with me today. My camera's autofocus motor died while I was at the John C. Campbell Folk School, so I have few pictures of my own to share. :-(

Since I am focusing on another project (knee health workshop I will be teaching this upcoming Saturday), I just wanted to get these photos out because I am so proud of everyone's accomplishments. We had a blast!!

I will post some tutorials with links to supplies and books in the near future. With Christmas coming up, I will be focusing on handmade gifts for the family.

The brown shoes on the left are my first pair, and the yellowish pair on the right are my second pair. After pulling the stitching out 4 times on my first pair, I was happy to have 2 pair of shoes. (I originally wanted to make 3 pair at least. Not very realistic, I know!)

What an experience!!! We had 10 students in the class and two amazing teachers to help us create beautiful shoes that fit our feet perfectly. Yay!!

What a cool talent to have! And what a great memory, you get to keep that knowledge with you forever. 💙

It was a fabulous experience, for sure. I will be making moccasins for my husband and grown children that will fit them and be made with love. :-)
