Jakarta - Kodak issued a surprising decision by launching a special cryptocurrency for photographers.

In collaboration with WENN Digital, Kodak released KodakOne, a platform for managing the copyright of an image, as well as KodakCoin, a cryptocurrency that is expected to support photographers and related firms in full control of their image ownership.

KodakOne itself uses blockchain technology to create encryption of copyright from the works of photographers, both new and old, in order to obtain a license through the platform

Furthermore, this platform has a web crawler, a bot for web index purposes, which is used to monitor and protect IP from images in the system.

While KodakCoin became a form of payment against licenses that have been made by photographers, both professional and amateur, through KodakOne.

"Blockchain and cryptocurrency are becoming the current hot talks, which can be used by photographers who have difficulty in controlling the use of their work by others," Kodak CEO Jeff Clarke said.

The presence of KodakCoin can continue to trend in selling photographs or illustrations through blockchain technology, as has been done by Ethereal-based CryptoKitties.

Initial Coin Offering (ICO) will start on January 31, 2018, but only for accredited investors in a number of countries, such as the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.

This decision also boosted the stock of Kodak USD 3.7, or 119%, to the figure of USD 6.8. It also increased the market value of this company to USD 289.5 Million.
