Fat wasn't the only thing they found.
Researchers recently took a few hot dog samples from the market in order to investigate and see what sort of tissue they were made out of.
They discovered that the hot dogs were not mostly meat but contained mostly fat overall. They also discovered bits of blood vessels and bone, along with cartilage.
It might not come as a surprise to some.
Previous investigations have also sought to look for the same truth regarding hot dogs and they too have discovered some unpleasant realities about what is in a favorite snack for millions.
Recalls for hot dog products are not that common but they have been found to contain a variety of foreign objects including glass, hair, and other items.
But for those who might be looking to consume mostly fat in their diet maybe they will be happy to learn that they can get a little more from hot dogs than they might have assumed. But they'll likely also be getting some unwanted preservatives, additives, or nitrates etc.
On Independence Day alone Americans are commonly found to consume some 100+ million hot dogs.
If you aren't familiar with the hot dog process then it might be better to just eat in ignorance and not go into detail about what 'trimmings' the dog might include.
Last year it is estimated that some 80+ million Americans enjoyed a hot dog, tens of millions of them were sold across different retail outlets and that means that the hot dog market alone is a multi-billion dollar market.
Of all the holiday celebrations, or the national hot dog day itself, the snack is most commonly linked with the July 4th Independence Day celebration.
