LOGANSPORT, Ind. (Network Indiana): Six bodies have been recovered from the ruins of a house fire in Logansport. Earlier in the evening state police said four bodies had been found.

“All agencies are supporting the Cass County sheriff’s department,” said Indiana State Police Sgt. Tony Slocum. “So far we have recovered four bodies. One adult male, one adult female, and two children.”

The victims included a 3-month-old boy, two 3-year-old girls, a 10-year-old girl, a 25-year-old woman, and a 42-year-old man. Two more people survived the fire and were taken to a nearby hospital.

According to Cass County Sheriff Randy Pryor, the six that have been confirmed dead might be relatives of a man who was found dead in neighboring Carroll County. But again, Pryor was unable to confirm if the two incidents themselves are connected.

According to WOWO

As for the fire, Indiana State Fire Marshall Jim Greeson said his team is looking over the rubble to try and figure out the cause.

“At this point, our focus has been on the recovery of the bodies,” said Greeson. “As we work towards (finding a cause) we have also kept in mind that if there is anything we see, anything we find that may indicate where the fire started, we’ll be sure to preserve that.”

When asked if the fire is part of a criminal investigation, Sheriff Pryor said with any fire of this magnitude you have to start with a criminal investigation in order to rule out everything you can. When asked if they believe the fire was intentionally set, Pryor said they “aren’t ruling anything out.”

The account from NBC News,

An early morning house fire in Logansport, Indiana, killed six people, including four children, and left two others hospitalized.

The fire started about 2 a.m. Wednesday at a home in rural Cass County, about 70 miles north of Indianapolis, officials said.

The bodies of a 25-year-old woman, her two daughters, ages 3 and 1, and her 3-month-old son were recovered from the home, according to the Indiana State Police.

A 42-year-old man and his daughter, 10, were also found dead inside the home, police said.Authorities believe they are all related.

Two adults who escaped the fire, believed to be the wife and son of the man who died, were hospitalized in stable condition and "are doing fine," Cass County Sheriff's Deputy Nick Bowyer said during a press conference Wednesday.

Officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. State police said, "there is no evidence to indicate the fire was intentionally set."

"Any fire of this magnitude, you want to start out as a criminal investigation," Sheriff Randy Pryor said. "We haven't ruled out anything at this point."

Fox News Reports,

An early morning fire on Tuesday ripped through a home in rural Indiana, killing six including four children, and authorities have reason to believe the fire was intentional, a report said.

WTHR reported that an unnamed source from Cass County, who was at the scene, raised the possibility. Indiana State Police Sgt. Tony Slocum told The Associated Press, "We're going to consider it a criminal investigation until we find out otherwise — it is all-encompassing."

Slocum told The Associated Press that crews assisted by cadaver dogs late Wednesday afternoon found two bodies in addition to those of an adult male, an adult female and two children recovered earlier. Slocum said he did not know the ages or the genders of the two latest bodies found.

The report said the dead included a 42-year-old man and his 10-year-old daughter. The body of a 25-year-old woman was also recovered at the scene, along with her 3-month-old boy, a 1-year-old girl and a 3-year-old girl.

Neighbors reported the fire about 2 a.m. Wednesday at the home north of Indianapolis. Two Cass County sheriff's deputies arrived within minutes later and attempted to enter the home but were turned away by flames and heat, Sheriff Randy Pryor said.

Two adults escaped the fire and were taken to a local hospital. Pryor said the two survivors have spoken to investigators.

The house was largely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, preventing any rescue attempts, New Waverly Fire Department Lt. Steve Crispen said.

The building's roof collapsed after fire gutted most of the interior of the two-story, wood-frame house, Crispen said.

Firefighting efforts were hindered by a lack of fire hydrants near the house. Fire crews ran out of water and had to wait for about five minutes for more tankers to arrive, Crispen said.

"It's pretty numbing when the initial dispatch is telling us people are entrapped in the structure and they're saying multiple people," Crispen said. "It's one of the toughest days I've probably had in my life."

Three state fire investigators were at the scene to determine the cause of the blaze, State Fire Marshal James Greeson said, adding that the task ahead would not be easy.

"We have an excavation unit in there that is going to systematically pull this apart, so we can get in and actually do our investigation," Greeson said.
