Easy Steps for Watercolouring Rose

in howto •  7 years ago

Hello Steemians! Today’s blog is about arts particularly in watercolour. I got interested in watercolour after seeing a post in a planner group by Paula. It is a portrait of a rose in watercolour, she added more personal touch by including the client’s name in it. Since she is having a destash(selling pre-loved stuff in a lower price) in the FB group, I ordered some from her and asked if she can paint for me. Fortunately, Paula is kind enough to make one for me as a gift.

After some time, I met Janice online who can also paint and fortunately, she’s living nearby. We pushed through to have a planner meet-up. One of our agenda is for her to teach me how to watercolour. She told me that she will provide the watercolour and brush, all I need to buy watercolour paper.

At first, she taught me how to use the watercolour properly. Dip the brush into the bowl of water, get some watercolour and put in the pan. Note that get only a little amount of watercolour. After doing so, using the brush, get more water and put it in the pan and mix it with the watercolour you got awhile ago.

Control the pressure you put in the brush, like you are writing. Lightly, make a little number 7. Afterwards, with the same pressure draw a letter C around the number 7. Continue making letter Cs around while putting more and more pressure until the end. You don’t have to put them in an orderly manner. At my first attempt, I put them very far with each other. And as I practiced making a rose I managed to paint the petals closer making it more recognizable.

You can improve your watercolour rose through imitating some photos on the internet. Through this, your hand will be more familiar with the strokes and in time you can see for yourself what will look good and things you need to adjust. If you are interested in making painting through watercolour, you should invest on good materials. There are some available at local bookstores. I will give you some heads-up on the prices. Prang (P250/8colors, P450/16colors), Reeves (P580+/18colors), Pebeo (P550/18colors) and Faber Castell (P450/tube set). The prices are in Philippine peso. You can also buy some on destash for lower prices.

I am not born an artist but I tried to watercolour because learning new things always adds spice to our life. I am frustrated at first because after many times of trying, I cannot get the output I want but I won’t hate watercolour painting for that. We need patience and enthusiasm for art to have a wonderful creation. I hope you enjoyed my simple tutorial, feel free to comment your questions. ‘Till next time!
