#hugelkultur starting point for today. The idea with this one is to have somewhat of a mandala effect with two bays that can be easily harvested. It's in the shape of a capital "E." As you can see, only two of the sections have been somewhat covered when we started today.

We don't have a wheelbarrow because they're too damn expensive. Instead, we use wagons with totes and buckets. One load consists of the kids (farmer Sam is out of town with Melissa) with the little wagon and one bucket, followed by me with the big wagon, a tote, and four buckets.

This chicken soil is so fluffy, and it's made of 100% organic matter since last August! When we've got it all out, we'll add a bunch more leaves and start over, hoping for a fall soil harvest!

We're sitting taking a drink break after the second load. We'll see how much we can get today! This sunshine and fresh air is working wonders today! We're all recharging and having a good time.

Hope you got it finished with your enthusiastic helper. I like your wheelbarrow alternative. I have two very old ones but they are rusting out and the wheels go flat so can’t take much weight. Crazy how expensive they are. I might build a cart like yours it’s a great idea.🙏

It worked great! 35 buckets and six totes full of soil got it wrapped up perfectly!

This is the second season we've used the wagons. The kids play with them all the time, and we even used them too move in the chicken coop when we bought it. Though the big one is probably on its last leg. It'll be dead the next time I use it.

Saturday mornings you should be hitting the tag sales! I bet you'd find all kinds of things you could use for next to nothing. Our tag sales don't start until the end of April. We go every Saturday morning at 7:30. We've gotten some tremendous hauls over the years. :))

Garage sales? Or something else?

I agree, garage sales are the best. We don't go to enough...

Garage sales, tag sales, estate sales, yard sales, etc.

Estate sales are the best for finding really good stuff, but also the saddest. More often than not, the family just wants to offload stuff, wants the money, and a whole person's life is casually disposed of.
