We all have that alter-ego, for me, it's Mike.

Out to lunch again today with my friend, Mike. He is a red-headed piercingly pale blue eyed preacher's son, one of five siblings, only two sisters and him left. He is convinced that he is right about everything. So am I.

Mike is convinced that most people are stupid, and sees life in black and white. I agree that most people are misinformed, but mostly still see life in many shades of gray, and that everyone has a story, a reason for their being. Nope, says Mike, we all have choices, we make our own beds, and I'm just gonna have fun until I die. When I know there is nothing I can do about the insanity of our times, well, fuck it, just gonna enjoy what I still got, the here and now. After all, what we are experiencing now is just a different iteration of history and it always repeats. Just human nature. People suck.

Life out with Mike for a lunch is at least always fun and interesting, and also always frustrating. But never shut out the alter-egos of your own minds. Not a one of us has yet figured any of this out. And strangely, Mike is my best friend these days. Seems he is the only one that puts up with me anymore, and seems to enjoy the banter. What a strange new world we all occupy? But without the banter, what else is there?

When the student is ready, the teacher appears, from directions not foreseen. And people don't suck. We're just mostly pretty stupid. On that I think Mike and I agree.
