This is my first post here on steemit. This is the beginning of a project I've had in mind for years. It has taken years for my thoughts to coalesce really for me to get to the point where i was ready to take a real run at it. This mental state of readiness has correlated with my discovery of steemit. This new platform is intriguing and im excited to experiment with it and log and keep a record of my research here.
Basic rundown.
The human collective is, in my opinion, what is called a supra-organism. A system of multiple organisms that may be considered a single organism.
An individual human I would also consider as a supra-organism. Humans are a system of cells of eukaryotic, and prokaryotic origins. Meaning we are made up of human cells, bacteria, and various single celled organisms that all work in harmony, for the most part, whose collective existence results in a human being.
Interestingly the cells that make up our body came from somewhere and truthfully their origins are unknown but there are some convincing theories. One theory that is born of empirical evidence is that the cells that make up human bodies are really a collection of several different organisms. Over the billions of years of evolution some cells engulfed others and permanently became incorporated. DNA has a tendency to get swapped around from time to time in a variety of ways. Nature is in a constant state of flux. The individual cells within us are themselves supra-organisms.
The universe seems fractal in nature to some extent. We have supra-organisms that make up supra-organisms that make up supra-organisms. So what?
Lets say i want to understand the human collective, which i do. How do i figure out how it functions? This supra-organism that is the human collective is different than the sum of its parts. I can't necessarily take an understanding of an individual humans behavior and apply it to the human collective. They are different organisms entirely.
So here is what i'm going to do. I'm going to study the collective behavior of various types of cells and see if i can learn something from them that might apply to the human collective. I intend to be as scientific as possible and provide as many sources as possible. A big part of my work that will be documented here is my sifting through the literature, writings and works on the subject of the human collective.
I am convinced that there is something that carries over from these different fractal levels. These different levels of structural organization of organic matter. I am convinced that studying the collective behavior of bacteria or our own cells will give insights into the the nature of the human collective.
We have to make this jump from the individual to this entirely different being that is the sum of all human existence and activity. I think we struggle to understand what this human collective is and how we fit into it. I think there are clear benefits to understanding the human collective and when we do we can possibly shape it and change its future in a positive way.
Thanks for reading. Several posts that follow this one will be of an introductory nature. I'll tell you a little about myself and I think there are some basic ideas and concepts that need to be touched upon before we dive in.
