Long Island Weekend Mostly Dry With A Few Minor Issues
We are approaching the first weekend of August. Typically on Long Island this is a month where the sea breeze basically shuts down except for right on the beaches. We tend have a large number of days where the humidity is high and the days are very warm to occasionally hot. Except in a heatwave pattern 90 degree days become harder to come by as the month wears on but 80s every day are common place. Right now we seem to be in a bit of a no man's land weather wise. We are enjoying sunshine today and it is somewhat humid this afternoon. We don't seem to have a trigger mechanism for a shower or thunderstorm around. There is some dry air lying just to our north in Upstate NY & New England. Some of that dry air will bleed southward tonight and we should see clear skies overnight with most lows in the 60s to around 70. The humidity will tend to come down a few notches thanks to a light north wind.
We have a stalled frontal boundary offshore and this going to sit offshore all weekend. There will be another front approaching from the north for Sunday. This leaves us with a nice Friday with sunshine and a few clouds with highs in the low to mid 80s. Saturday we will still be in between the two systems but with some sunshine Saturday temperatures will reach the mid to upper 80s and there is the chance for an odd shower or thunderstorm popping up. However much of the day for most will be rain free.
Sunday the northern cold front will pass through in the morning with a few clouds. There are two waves. One is off the North Carolina coast and the other back in Arkansas. Both will stay to our south but it will cause the northern system to slow down as it moves through. Right now I am being somewhat optimistic in forecasting a mix of sun and clouds, leaving in the chance for an odd shower. Highs will be in the lower 80s as dry air tries to move in around that high to the north. Overall it should be a good day. The high should build in enough to give Long Island a nice day Monday with sunshine and reasonable humidity.
