Few events in a hunter's life are more memorable than the taking of his or her first big game animal. If you hunt, my guess is that you would probably agree.
Here is a picture of my first white-tailed deer, which I recently found in a box of old Ektachrome slides. It is the only physical record I have left, as the mount was lost in a fire so many years ago.
I took this Maryland buck in 1971 when I was thirteen years old, with a Pumpkin Ball slug fired off the bead of my Remington 1100 shotgun. It could not have been a more beautiful, crisp, November morning in that wonderful land of whitetails. It was a fine shot too, for it is not so easy to make a fifty yard shot with that equipment. I was more than thrilled, and I don’t think anyone could have wiped the smile off of my face for several days.
I can recall almost every detail of that scene to this day, and I don’t mind revisiting it periodically in my mind. Obviously, it is not the biggest whitetail buck ever harvested, but it may as well have been, at least to me. Why it was as big as the world.
I hope that you have a memory like this in your box of experiences, and if not, may you get one soon.
Long live the white-tailed deer…and the wild woodlots of the world!

If you are interested in conservation and hunter education I would highly recommend this little volume by Jim Posewitz. It is also invaluable if you find yourself in a discussion about the defense of hunting.
We generally have a copy in our bookstore stock, if so interested.
Beautiful animal, thanks for sharing! Following YOU!

Oh let me count the ways. It was always about freedom for me, and adventure. Now it is largely about friends, and family, and good memories. Best!

Great! What kinds of books do you read? Just curious, books about hunting?

Oh that's much too long a story for our time here. Actually, as a dealer I specialize in sporting books, and it's a big, big, outdoor world out there. However, Jim Kjelgaard titles do hold a special place in my heart. Best!

I am, #7527, but I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to use it. It does not seem to be user friendly, at least for me.

Thanks. Hey, that's one thing I had not really thought of too much. Forever on the blockchain! Oh what a concept. I am writer, and I am now...immmortal. What more could a word scribbler ask for?

Also, "One does not hunt to kill. One hunts, because meat." :)
Unfortunately I was never taught to hunt, and am now physically unable although I am able to reload and shoot at the range. It is a skill and experience I wish I had. I have only ever had to kill animals for humane reasons. Not the same thing.

You can't reload? OK yeah that sucks.

Misunderstanding, I can still reload and shoot, but I have to do it when my back is not at its worst. I cast for my 9mm, and my boys bought a Howa 1500 .223 that we are going to learn to reload for this summer when school is out.. I have never loaded rifle before.

Nice Coues. I bowhunted for mule deer in Arizona about 3 weeks ago. I have yet to hunt for Coues, but that is very high on my hunting bucket list. Maybe this december...https://steemit.com/hunting/@huntbook/looking-for-cactus-in-all-the-wrong-places

Hey guys, I was thinking of doing some reloading videos. Do you think there's an audience on STEEM for that?

Absolutely! I would love to see some reloading videos and more gun and hunting posts. I think that the audience is growing bigger everyday. I think that some people may worry about being politically correct. I say let her rip! You might try searching under some tags like guns or firearms to see who else is posting. also, take a look at @dennyducet for a good place to start.
