Oakleaf Hydrangea - the one for dry spots.

in hydrangeas •  7 years ago

Following on from my previous post about Hydrangeas, here is another very different variety, maybe not as well known. It certainly deserves a mention because it withstands colder conditions than regular Hydrangeas, and also thrives in dry conditions in places where many other plants would not do well. This is the plant for a lazy gardener, like me ! It is called the Oakleaf Hydrangea ( Hydrangea quercifolia ). The regular variety has large panicles of creamy white flowers, and there are varieties with double flowers, and flowers that are pure white too, for the virgins amongst us. In Autumn before the leaves drop off in Winter, they turn a coppery color, which enhances the look of the bush. Hydrangeas are for Temperate and cooler climates, and grow to around 1 metre or so in height. They do well here in Sydney too. A large upvote will be given to the person who i judge makes the best comment, and another large upvote for the Silliest ( silly sausage )comment. Please note that silly comments are not the same as lazy comments. Lazy comments are made by people who write only a few words hoping for an upvote, so don't do that or you will not have a chance to win the best comment or the silly sausage. new 2 019.JPG

I am wondering what these beautiful flowers have to do with silly comments? You are supposed to be my plant doctor! Now! You have suddenly changed to a game-show host! With prizes and competitions!
How could boring and drape gardeners know anything about competitions and pitching their wits! You are driving decent and honest gardeners into making a fool of themselves! Their plants would not recognise their planters and may suffer from stunted growth!! These plants will hold you responsible for these aberrations!

Congratulations, this is a great comment and my favourite comment award winner.

Wow! Thank you very much! I see you have a Martian sense of humour! I originally came from Saturn! It was quite difficult to adjust my Saturnian sense of humour to be as close as possible to the earthlings’sense of humour. So far, I only succeeded in coming closer to Martians’ culture! I still have some space to travel to get to the earth! I am trying to communicate with all interstellar beings!

Thank you very much, my plant doctor!

Yr Welcome buddy !

At first sight I thought its papaya plant becoz its leaves resembles wit that plant but I think its a different plant.

Yes it is commonly available and its flowers are also very nice.

Thank you and Have a great day.

Thanks @ctrl-alt-nwo for sharing this post. 🤗

Beautiful flowers are like Steem power - @ctrl-alt-now has plenty of it to share it around with its lucky followers ;)

A beautiful plant for the design landscape, Oakleaf Hydrangea - an elegant, weather resistant plant that attracts everyone's attention both during the flowering period and outside it. It is generally believed that hydrangea is a capricious plant, and complicated care is needed. But the flower growers, who in practice already dealt with this shrub, claim the opposite. Thank you @ctrl-alt-nwo

Yeah im following your previous post..lovely photography i love nature i hope u also crazy fan of nature....

Amazing photography
For your post propagation.

Oh yeah it's hydrangea with a sheet of oak, we have such a hydrangea in the country is expensive, but real fans of hydrangeas do not spare money and buy. That's what I learned about it. The hydrangea quercifolia, marked by 18th-century botanist William Bartram in his herbarium-collecting study was seen in the 1770s. It was not in a hurry to enter the British and American gardens. Since the hydrangea flowers were considered very tender for the climate. Only in the 20th century the cultivars of the plant were increased in use in garden design in America and Great Britain.

Hahaha lazy gardener. There is no lazy gardener. There is a gardener who knows the job. ;)
Turkey also in the area I live in this plant; It is called wedding flower. It is generally preferred for the brides or the tables of the invitees. I think it is used to get rid of the flaws of the brides (ugly) or to embellish their beauty. For example
ortanca-taç.jpg
The lady here has added a different air. This beautiful plant does not even close enough the shortcomings of some of them. I did not want to put that kind of picture and break your morale.(I did not take this picture.)

A really beautiful flower is a plant I would like to have in the future. I want it to stay in a place close to the garden.

Great comment.

I have seen this flower, but never knew the name of it. In fact when it comes to name I am not good at remembering. If I not met with someone for long time I tend to forget their names, sometimes I forget the names of my friends at college.
Any way it's good to know few things about this plant.
Cheers!

Yeah, i am terrible at remembering names too.

Wow very beautiful photography and great work

Hydrangeas flowers are very beautiful and simple, because you say Hydrangeas can grow fertile, although dry conditions and have many other plants. Flower for the lazy gardener, but this flower is beautiful. Thank you @ctrl-alt-nwo

Oakleaf Hydrangea is a deciduous shrub with white showy flower heads, it is a commonly grown garden plant. Oakleaf hydrangea and the popular peegee hydrangea the only hydrangeas with cone- shaped flower clusters; all the others have their flowers in ball shaped or flat topped clusters called umbels.
Hydrangea is cultivated as an ornamental plant, and is used as a flowering shrub in gardens and parks.it grows best in a natural or landscaped woodland habitat, preferring partial to almost full shade, with morning sun and afternoon shade as optimal. It will tolerate drought, but may not flower.

Fresh or dry, the blossoms of Oakleaf hydrangea are attractive as cut flowers.

I really like your senses which perceive beautiful nature in everything and everywhere or may be you are a botanist who love flowers.

Flowers are one of the most heartfelt things in our lives. Either we love or we die they are with us. Marriage ceremony is incomplete without flowers so are the funeral rituals which also get the scent of flowers.

Oakleaf Hydrangea is really beautiful flower; one which is more suitable at the altar of marriage ceremony.
